The office of the Chief Research Officer at Underwriters Laboratories Inc. seeks a collaborative life-long learner and forward-thinking Research Science Librarian and Information Services professional.

 

The successful candidate will possess both the training and expertise needed to inform, develop, and deliver an inaugural Library and Information Services program within an aggressive timeline that delivers a new resource that will engage with and support the research, data, and related needs of multiple safety science institutes. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a dedicated team to build and sustain a bespoke resource that will advance the safety-science mission of Underwriters Laboratories Inc.

What you’ll learn & achieve:
  • Assess needed components, develop and oversee associated budget, present and gain consensus with key stakeholders that will enable the build out of a valued Research Library Information Services Program
  • Identify and establish partnerships with relevant vendors, subscriptions and/or consulting resources as research demands necessitate
  • Curate and develop collections of resources and tools that proactively provide intellectual material to researchers and enterprise leaders
  • Create and develop the program so it is effectively scoped and positioned for growth and expansion
  • Serve as a research consultant and provide information literacy and instruction services
  • Provide subject-specific information and data in support of the varied needs of multiple research institutes
  • Embrace and leverage diverse knowledge sets to the betterment of the program, users, and across the Underwriters Laboratories enterprise
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on understanding and providing intelligence in support of government requests for information, notices of funding opportunities, and policy related processes
  • Aggressively stays abreast of developments in science publishing and open science tools and facilitate early adoption of new tools and technology
  • Develop and maintain library guides and/or other digital or physical instructional materials to support research institutes
  • Provide research assistance and reference services to others as needed, especially in support of communications and strategic positioning functions
  • Successfully engage with institutes, companies, and universities library and information services programs to stay informed, connected, and best positioned to act on new technologies and tools within the Library Sciences market space
  • Manage all aspects of information-related research workflow tools and resources
  • Performs other duties as assigned

What makes you a great fit:

Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree in Library and Information Science, or equivalent, from an American Library Association accredited program
  • 8+ years of increased work experiences within the Library Science environment including a focus on science-, technology-, and engineering-related resources
  • Experienced in library services and a passionate focus on furthering all users access to qualified data, knowledge, and technical information that delivers collective success
  • Experienced in successfully navigating government requests for information, notices of funding opportunities, and policy related processes

  • Demonstrated research and search skills that are in alignment with the MLA statement on expert search techniques
