Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

The Department of Instructional Technology, Foundations and Secondary Education prepares educators/professionals for leadership positions in instructional technology and secondary education. Our commitment is to the development of highly competent professionals to serve in educational leadership roles.

Our secondary education program has strong alliances with the College of Arts and Sciences in the related secondary subject matters of mathematics, science, English, social sciences, foreign languages, physical education/health and music. In addition, our MIT program has strong ties with Computer Science, Computer Science and Information Systems and Communication Studies. Each allied department has a role in providing content related courses and program guidance.

The Watson College of Education ( WCE ) (www.uncw.edu/ed) is a rapidly growing college with over 65 tenure-track faculty members working in undergraduate and master’s programs in the Department of Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle, Literacy and Special Education and the Department of Instructional Technology, Foundations and Secondary Education, and master’s and doctoral programs in the Department of Educational Leadership. It offers several international study programs, a newly developed laboratory school, and maintains partnerships with numerous school districts, community colleges, and colleges/universities in the region.

Brief Summary of Work for this Position

The Administrative Associate is the primary support person for the Chair and the faculty members of the Instructional Technology, Foundations and Secondary Education Department ( ITFSE ). The Administrative Associate position is responsible for the department’s annual budget, that includes but is not limited to accurately/precisely managing the monthly faculty load and compensation process, managing and compiling personnel records; working with data from a variety of sources and creating spreadsheets, supporting faculty course and research efforts, maintaining communications to students and the general public and supporting the various projects of the department – including but not limited to assisting program coordinators and students in resolving course registration and scheduling issues, building the schedule for each academic term for each of the department’s academic programs, faculty searches, travel requests and reimbursements and other travel related work and the purchase of materials and equipment. This position will supervise graduate assistants and undergraduate work assistant students.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

Preferred education, professional skills and experience

* Two year Associate Degree
* Experience in an academic setting
* Knowledge of Banner student and finance, budget and travel
* Strong technical knowledge with online and PC based software (Microsoft Office proficiency at the intermediate level, Canvas, Adobe Creative Suite)
* Public contact with internal and external constituents
