Director of Civic Engagement



Shenandoah University’s Center for Civic Engagement is accepting applications for a Director of Civic Engagement. This is a full-time benefited position located on our main campus in Winchester, Virginia.

The Director of Civic Engagement reports directly to the AVP for Student Leadership and Development. This staff member is responsible for supervising a team of students, including a graduate assistant. The Director of Civic Engagement works directly with the Office of Student Leadership and Development and the SGA to enhance civic engagement opportunities. The Director will coordinate activities that align with the Shenandoah University Academy (SULA).

Responsibilities:

1.Build relationships in the Winchester & Northern VA communities with organizations that can provide students with educational opportunities to learn and serve. Create and provide opportunities for the Shenandoah University community to engage in volunteer service at all campuses.

2. Work with faculty across different disciplines to embed service-learning in the curricular offerings of the university.

3. Create a voter engagement plan that educates and inspires students to vote in local, state, and national elections each year.

4. Organize, publicize, and implement civic dialogue opportunities across difference that include people with differing opinions. Exemplify the "Be Understood, Be Understanding" theme for Shenandoah

5. University. Develop leaders who have empathy and a commitment to service to others (ie, through service, dialogue, and civic engagement, etc).

6. Organize opportunities for students to engage with public leaders that educate students about getting involved in issues facing their communities. * The Director will create and develop civic engagement programming that supports the Shenandoah University Leadership Academy.

Required Skills

Qualifications:

Required Level: Bachelor's Degree Field of Study: Civic Engagement, Political Science, or related field.

Preferred Level: Master's Degree Field of Study: Civic Engagement, Political Science, or related field.

Required Minimum of two years related work experience in Civic Engagement, Student Affairs, or a related field.

Preferred Minimum of five years in the related fields
