Job Summary
The Alabama Prison Arts + Education Project is hiring an Academic Program Administrator who will build and manage community partnerships for educational initiatives and outreach programs related to prison higher education and re-entry. This person also teaches one course per semester for the Interdisciplinary Studies degree program to students in the APAEP /AU credit programs at Staton Correctional Facility and Tutwiler Women’s Prison. This position is based at the APAEP Community Education Resource Center in Birmingham, AL.
Essential Functions
Coordinates and assists with planning, designing, developing, executing, and/or managing strategies and programs for APAEP Community Education Program and Re-entry Program. Assists APAEP Director with a high-level administrative/professional program support responsibilities. Coordinates program/services activities to ensure APAEP and ADOC guidelines, specifications, policy and/or procedures are enforced and followed. Provides information to and facilitates communication between administrators, faculty, staff, and students concerning program/services. Maintains relevant databases to ensure accurate and accessible records. May coordinate and organize courses/classes to include activities such as student registration, room scheduling, and ensuring appropriate equipment is available. Monitors budget and grant funding and ensures expenditures are within specifications and in line with spending projections; may research, write, submit, and/or administer grants and proposals for submission. Teaches required courses in Interdisciplinary Studies and Leadership to new cohorts in the APAEP College Programs at Staton Correctional Facility and Tutwiler Prison for Women. Acts in a supervisory role at the Community Education Resource Center in Birmingham, AL.

Minimum Skills and Abilities
High functioning in management of multiple programming areas, strong communicator, compassionate relationship builder, organized, able to engage with students, able to work with minimal supervision. Extensive knowledge of prison higher education programs and re-entry programs. Must have experience teaching at the college level. Must be able to travel to various correctional facilities in Alabama.
Minimum Technology Skills
Advanced/extensive computer, email, and word processing skills.
Minimum License and Certifications
Must have Alabama driver’s license. Will receive PREA (Prison Rape Elimination Act) training on the job.
Desired Qualifications
APAEP encourages applications from individuals with personal and/or professional experience with the criminal justice system. The person in this position will have to be cleared by the Alabama Department of Corrections for entry into correctional facilities.
