Position Function

In collaboration with the Associate Vice President for Enrollment Planning and Management, and its leadership staff, support the Office of Undergraduate Admissions commitment to attracting and recruiting a qualified and diverse student body, by actively participating in programming and recruiting initiatives, and meeting the university’s overall enrollment goals.

Minimum Education

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution by time of appointment.

Minimum Experience

At least one year of relevant educational or outreach work experience.

Minimum Other

Demonstrated and strong commitment to diversity. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills (written and oral) with a customer service orientation; ability to speak before large groups or audiences; comfort and experience with computer technology; ability to load and transport admissions materials, displays, and other equipment; possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and be insurable under the university’s auto fleet policy.

Authorization to work in the US

Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

Preferred Education

Master’s degree in student affairs, education, communication, or related field.

Preferred Experience

Experience working with and presenting to a diverse student constituency; bilingual with emphasis in Spanish.

Job Duty

Manage recruitment territory; extensive travel for approximately ten to twelve weeks; possess working knowledge and familiarity of high schools and school counselors in assigned market area to include visit policy, enrollment history (into Ball State), and academic profile of each high school; provide support with targeted recruitment visits to feeder high schools, attend fall and spring visits to attract prospective students by collaborating with the Associate Director of Recruitment for Admissions regarding which schools to visit, making decisions independently regarding timing and scheduling of visits, performing appropriate follow-up, cultivating non-productive high schools, maintaining positive relationships with school counselor professionals, and assessing market culture to meet enrollment goals.

Represent the university to prospective students, their families, school counselors, and other individuals or organizations involved in the college selection process, on and off campus, through group presentations, phone calls, e-mails, and one-on-one meetings; communicate with various audiences including underrepresented minority students of various ages; counsel prospective students and families; make decisions about appropriate follow-up; present positive and professional image of Ball State University.

Assist and contribute to the success of student visit programs, designed to attract targeted diverse prospective applicants; exercise autonomy to make decisions regarding scheduling, planning, implementing, and evaluating programs; initiate and maintain contact with individuals participating in the programs, arrange for invitations, physical set-up, meal cards, parking, staff assignments, etc; use own judgment, troubleshoot and solve problems.
