TheCenter for Community Work and Learning (CWL)facilitates meaningful community and civic engagement through course-based work, scholarship, and student employment; providing students with opportunities to practice critical and creative thinking, living out St. Kate’s values of social justice and leadership. TheAssociate Directorvisions the theory and practice of critical service-learning, working to co-create models of community engagement that advance the university mission toward mutual benefit with community partners.
  • Collaborate with Director to moveCWLwork forward strategically across institution and externally, bringing in service-learning expertise, scholarship and program development.
  • Lead St. Kate’s visibility in the service-learning field locally, regionally and nationally.
  • Connect service-learning across courses, departments and semesters; ensure that faculty, student, and community partner interaction and impact is positive.
  • Work with faculty and departments to design and implement course-based service-learning, including developing and adapting curriculum, leading or co-teaching class sessions, and educating faculty on best practices.
  • Identify and develop appropriate community sites for service-learning and research opportunities, creating and maintaining effective, reciprocal relationships.
  • Communicate actively and consistently with community organizations, engaging their staff in the shared work.
  • Supervise and support the service-learning Program Coordinator, student workers, and graduate intern.
  • Develop and implement departmental communications, outreach and marketing efforts through print and digital mediums.
  • Present St. Kate’s work to the broader public at statewide, regional and national meetings and conferences.
  • Develop and integrateCWLassessment work to advance overall department goals including service-learning and student employment.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience in service-learning or experiential learning
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of current issues and future direction of community engagement in higher education
  • Experience working with and supporting diverse populations; ability to work collaboratively and effectively with people of all identities (i.e., ages, cultures, backgrounds, etc.)
  • Experience creating collaborative, respectful and effective relationships with stakeholders that may include students, staff, faculty, administrators, and community partner organizations.
  • Experience implementing and maintaining social media and website content, and ability to learn St. Kate’s software and technology (i.e., Microsoft Publisher, photo editing software, etc.)
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office and Google suites
ANDEITHER
  • Master’s degree
  • Four years of professional experience in community engagement within higher education, non-profit administration, community training and development or a related field
OR
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Six years of professional experience in community engagement within higher education, non-profit administration, community training and development or a related field

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with curriculum development and teaching and conducting research, both integrated with community partners.
  • Experience designing surveys and evaluations using Qualtrics or a similar software.
