JOB SUMMARY
The Department of Geological Sciences at California State University, San Bernardino invites applications from a diverse group of qualified applicants for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 2022. Responsibilities of the Assistant Professor include participation and leadership in the faculty duties of teaching, mentoring, research, service, and program development. The position, as do all faculty, serves as an advocate for the Department in the College and the University, and vice versa. This position reports to the Chair of the Geosciences Department and is a 10-month, full-time faculty member appointment. This position will provide strong academic leadership in the planning and administration of graduate and undergraduate programs in Geology, assist other faculty in developing new initiatives and a viable strategic vision, mentor undergraduate students in their education process, teach courses (at a full-time load), maintain an active research program involving undergraduate and/or graduate students. The position is expected to develop and participate in activities that support the university's strategic plan. This plan emphasizes: (1) student success; (2) faculty and staff success; (3) stewarding resources; (4) community engagement; and, (5) enhancing the campus identity.
Qualified candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population and to working effectively with faculty, staff and students across a wide range of disciplines.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A Ph.D in Geological Science or a related field is required by time of appointment.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
The candidate must have a Ph.D. in the geosciences, communication and interpersonal skills, as well as an excellent record of teaching and scholarship, preferably with a record of significant external research funding. Applicants with prior success in fundraising and development are particularly encouraged to apply.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department has five full-time faculty members with a variety of research interests and offers B.A., B.S., and M.S. degrees, and is located in one of the most geologically rich and diverse regions of North America. The area of the candidate's specialization is Structural Geology, with preference will be given to applicants that can also emphasize Neotectonics. Additional preference will be given to disciplines that complement existing faculty specialties in petrology, geochemistry, engineering geology and natural hazards, economic geology, groundwater hydrology, and paleontology. We seek a candidate with a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching and diversity, a record of research funding, and a commitment to excellence that will enhance the Department.
