We seek applicants who are dedicated to early student success and serving The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley's diverse student body as a non-tenured Lecturer in the School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences beginning in the 2022-2023 academic year, subject to funding availability. The focus and intent of the lecturing duties will be teaching introductory level co-requisite courses. Minimum Qualifications:
M.S./M.A. in Mathematics or Statistics from an accredited university.

Discipline Specific Required Qualifications:
All faculty at UTRGV are required to exhibit a commitment to Teaching Excellence. Candidates must show experience and qualifications that meet SACS-COC and other departmental/college accreditation requirements. Teaching: The primary responsibility of Lecturers considered for this position will be teaching and collaborating with colleagues to enhance student success in co-requisite courses. Co-requisite mathematics courses are often paired with another math course. In other words, students will take both the prerequisite and the regular course in the same semester. Lecturers are expected to: 1) implement evidence-based teaching and learning strategies in the classroom and to document their impact to increase the chances for success of first-year college students who are not yet considered college-ready; 2) use effective activities/pedagogy in the classroom to engage students, cultivate thinking skills, and motivate interest in the subject; and 3) integrate innovative technology and customized learning to maximize student success. Given that UTRGV is a distributed university, faculty may be required to teach online or hybrid courses or teach at different locations. Service and Scholarship: Although the primary obligation of lecturers is to teach, service to the university and community may be a part of the faculty members’ responsibilities. This position does not provide any formal expectation and/or support for scholarship activities. However, UTRGV encourages all faculty, including Lecturers, to engage in scholarship.

Preferred Qualification:
Ph.D. or terminal degree in the field of study with extensive teaching experience and documented teaching effectiveness at a university or college campus. UTRGV seeks to increase the representation of historically underrepresented faculty in the sciences, including underrepresented minority and women faculty. We value applicants who can understand and have overcome race, gender-based, and ability-based barriers, and who can bring with them the wealth of worldview, perspective, and experience that is critical to an innovative and accessible educational environment. As a federally designated Hispanic Serving Institution, UTRGV is committed to preparing its students to succeed, contribute and excel in an increasingly diverse, global, and interconnected world, and seeks faculty who are prepared to help in this goal.
