The Department of Theology announces a search for a tenure-track position in Global Christianity at the rank of Assistant Professor of Theology to begin in Fall 2018. Ph.D. or equivalent required. Candidates should have an African, East Asian, or Latin American expertise and be conversant in how Christianity interacts with other religious traditions and movements. Courses to be taught are chiefly at the undergraduate level. The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop courses arising from his or her area of expertise. Further teaching responsibilities will include both the department’s required general education course, The Christian Tradition, and the departmental rotation of instructors in the University’s first-year interdisciplinary Core. The standard teaching load is typically 3-4 courses each semester. Responsibilities beyond teaching include the construction and pursuit of a clear scholarly agenda, as well as fair share of departmental business, including advising, curricular review and development, student recruitment, and good campus citizenship.

In addition to strong academic qualifications and excellence in teaching, the University highly values experience in working across cultural and other significant differences. At the same time, candidates should address how they would contribute to a university engaged in issues in Christian higher education in the Lutheran tradition.
