ANNOUNCEMENT:  Southwestern Illinois College is accepting applications for the full-time, tenure track faculty position of Earth Science Instructor. The anticipated start date is August 2022.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:  In accordance with the Mission and Values of Southwestern Illinois College, this faculty position includes teaching, developing, and maintaining courses in geology, earth science, astronomy, and weather and climate course offerings.  Teaching duties include both lecture and lab components of courses taught as well as coordinating lab equipment, supplies, and maintenance needs with other Earth Science faculty.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

1. Master’s degree in Geology or Earth Science, with courses in meteorology, oceanography and astronomy required, PhD in Geology or Earth Science preferred.  
2. Successful teaching experience in higher education is strongly preferred.
3. Experience with computer-based and Internet (online distance learning) instruction preferred.
4. Experience in working with diverse student populations is preferred.
5. Shall meet the minimum standards of instruction established by the Board of Trustees for any assigned courses.

STARTING SALARY:  This is a nine-month teaching position with the salary determined by placement on the base salary schedule.  The actual salary is determined by educational level and placement on the appropriate salary schedule.  Overload and summer teaching assignments may also be available which would increase the annual compensation.  The college offers a comprehensive flexible benefit program.

WORK LOCATION:  Belleville Campus/Red Bud Campus/Sam Wolf Granite City Campus
