ASSOCIATE DEAN OF STUDENTS

Schwarzman Scholars invites nominations and applications for the position of Associate Dean of Students.

Schwarzman Scholars, founded in 2013, fully supports up to 200 Scholars annually from the U.S., China, and around the world for a one-year master’s in global affairs and a deep immersion in Chinese culture and leadership development at Beijing’s Tsinghua University—one of China’s oldest and most prestigious institutions of higher learning. The program was the vision of Stephen A. Schwarzman, the founding trustee and largest donor, and is supported and overseen by the Stephen A. Schwarzman Educational Foundation. The program’s goal is to create future global leaders who have a deep understanding of China, a diverse network of cross-sector influencers, and who occupy positions of authority with integrity and honor. Scholars, chosen for their demonstrated leadership, intellect, and exemplary character, live in active community at the residential Schwarzman College within the University’s campus. During their year in Beijing, Scholars are given access to unparalleled cultural and academic experiences, including travel to all corners of China, exchanges with global leaders, and connections with experts in their chosen disciplines. Immediately recognized as one of the world’s most selective graduate and fellowship programs, Schwarzman Scholars’ seventh cohort will arrive in Beijing in August 2022. Since its founding, Schwarzman Scholars has raised over $580 million towards fully endowing this program. Scholars to date have hailed from 81 countries, received undergraduate degrees from 294 universities, and worked in 25 industries.

A member of the senior leadership team and the senior-most foundation employee in China, working closely with colleagues in both Beijing and New York City, the Associate Dean of Students will be based at Schwarzman College on the Tsinghua campus in Beijing. The Associate Dean will report to the Executive Director of the Schwarzman Scholars Program, Dr. Lara Tiedens, and Dean of Schwarzman College, Dr. Xue Lan. The preferred candidate will have an entrepreneurial spirit and diplomatic leadership style; the ability to navigate complex relationships with faculty and staff at Tsinghua University; experience working with international students; a sophisticated understanding of global development, an active interest in China’s place in the world, and an appreciation for the mission of Schwarzman Scholars. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in student affairs in an institution of higher education, be a community builder with superior interpersonal skills, and be adept at producing and implementing student affairs policy. The program is conducted in English and fluency in Mandarin is not required.
