CONTRACT TERMS: 12 Month, Full Time Position      

PRIMARY DUTY: Oversees the professional staffs of Upward Bound, Upward Bound Math Science and Student Support Services.  Responsible for all reporting and evaluation requirements of each program and is the lead on all grant writing processes.  Assures programs are operating in line with federal guidelines.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Supervise and evaluate TRIO Assistant Directors and Office Manager
  2. Manage program budgets in accordance with institutional and federal regulations
  3. Cultivate positive professional working relationships with all faculty, staff, and community agencies
  4. Develop and implement strategies to recruit and select eligible participants
  5. Promote retention and graduation efforts of participants, both at the high school and university level
  6. Serve as primary liaison with the U.S. Department of Education
  7. Serve on university committees that impact the interests of TRIO eligible students
  8. Prepare official reports for the U.S. Department of Education, including Annual Performance Reports
  9. Lead preparation of grant applications for continued funding for all three TRIO projects
  10. Collaborate with Assistant Directors to lead design, coordination, and evaluation of retention programs for low-income, first generation, and/or students with disabilities for all three TRIO projects

 

REQUIREMENTS:

Education:   Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, Education or related field.

Experience:

  • Four years’ experience working with TRIO programs
  • Supervision of professional and student employees
  • Federal reporting procedures

Skills: Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a broad range of University and community members; excellent communication skills, ability to understand and relate to students who may have barriers to academic success.

       

WORKING CONDITIONS: Office-style setting with some conference and program travel required.  Extensive off schedule hours during June/July coinciding with Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math/Science residential components, as well as availability as needed for additional programming opportunities, such as Saturday Academies, SSS Bridge, and orientations. This position is identified as a Campus Security Authority (CSA). The CSA will attend required CSA training and is an official of the University who has significant responsibility for students and campus activities and the authority to take action for the University.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly supervises Assistant Directors and Office Manager, and provides assistance with supervision of full-time professional staff members, along with 40-50 part time employees.
