DePaul University is located in the heart of Chicago's vibrant Loop and Lincoln Park communities. In 2021, the School of Cinematic Arts (SCA) was ranked 16th in Hollywood Reporter’s annual list of the top film schools in the country and named by Variety as one of the top film schools in the world.

In SCA, there are currently over 1,700 majors enrolled in the BA, BFA, BS, MS, and MFA degree programs. The MFA degrees are in Film and Television Animation, Creative Producing, Directing, Documentary, and Screenwriting. Production resources include four full sound stages at Cinespace Studios, two sound studios, industry-standard camera packages, a grip truck, two green screen stages, a motion capture studio, one television studio, and one digital cinema theatre. Responsibilities

The School of Cinematic Arts at DePaul University invites applicants for full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professors who can teach a variety of courses in Film and/or Television Production, Directing, or Cinematography in one of the most innovative and fastest-growing film schools in the country. The School of Cinematic Arts offers concentrations in Directing and Cinematography for BFA students, as well as an MFA in Directing and an MS in Cinematography.

The responsibilities of this position will require teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in directing, production, or cinematography for film and television. All tenure-track faculty are expected to develop and maintain a scholarly profile that aligns with the expectations of tenure and promotion. Additionally, they participate in service within and beyond campus including attendance at program and departmental meetings, active participation in recruitment efforts, advising students, participation in departmental, college, and university committees, and professional stewardship in the field.

Qualifications

Record of professional practice and/or creative activity is required. Successful applicants will be able to teach theoretical and practical hands-on courses, will have industry and/or academic experience, and are motivated to work with faculty and students on building curriculum, leading school-wide initiatives, and/or participating in collaborative projects. We are actively seeking candidates with cultural diversity competency skills that enhance the experience of traditionally excluded populations and cultivate a more inclusive climate for our students, staff, faculty, and the broader community of which DePaul is an integral part.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. MFA degree OR equivalent industry experience in film and/or television production, directing, or cinematography.
  2. Exemplary communication and collaboration skills
  3. Able to demonstrate cultural competencies in diverse learning communities
