The Institute for Medical Education (IME) at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is seeking an individual with the talent and passion for health professions education research. Reporting to the Director of the IME and working collaboratively with faculty, staff and learners, the Assistant Director is responsible for furthering all aspects of the IME mission with a particular focus on medical education scholarship. This includes developing the skills of faculty and learners related to educational research methods through faculty development programs, mentoring scholars in medical education research, collaboratively building a program of scholarship within the IME, and creating and monitoring program evaluation for the IME.

The position is a full time position and the candidate is eligible for faulty appointment at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

Responsibilities

  • Create, conduct and evaluate faculty development programming related to medical education scholarship and dissemination
  • Consult with faculty, staff and other stakeholders related to education research and scholarship projects
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff and other stakeholders to design, implement and improve educational research methodology, data collection and analysis, program evaluation, and outcomes assessment
  • Collaborate with the Director and Manager to create a program of scholarship within the IME
  • Apply for funding (intramural and extramural) for medical education research
  • Deliver and oversee programs that allow faculty to share and receive feedback on their educational research and scholarship activities
  • Serve on all review committees related to IME-sponsored activities
  • Publish and present educational scholarship in peer-reviewed forums
  • Conduct and assist with statistical analyses, writing of abstracts and manuscripts, data collection instruments, and IRB submission materials
  • Collaborate with the Director and Manager in the planning and scheduling of all IME activities

Requirements

  • PhD or MD with focus on health professions education, educational research or educational science
  • 5+ years demonstrated experience in medical education
  • Demonstrated ability to publish in high impact, peer reviewed journals in the area of medical education research
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work with individuals at different levels of experience, including faculty, staff and learners
  • Ability to seek, translate and communicate educational theory and research to health professionals in the classroom and clinical workplace setting
  • Demonstrated training and experience in research design, qualitative and quantitative analysis and program evaluation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Expert knowledge of statistical analysis and data visualization software
