DEPARTMENT:  Athletics Department            

POSITION REPORTS TO: Associate AD/External Operations    

OVERVIEW:  Manhattan College, an NCAA Division I institution and member of the Metro Atlantic Conference (MAAC), is seeking a qualified candidate for a 12 month, full-time position as an Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Communication and Media. The responsibility of the position is to work under the direction of the Senior Associate AD/External Operations and to provide leadership for and to oversee the Manhattan College Sports Communication and Media Office, which services 19 Division I sports.  The expectation is to plan, coordinate, and direct media and public relations activities, manage sports data for the department by preparing and disseminating relevant and accurate information in a timely manner for the varsity programs. The selected candidate will work closely with the college’s Public Relations Office and the Sports Communication Department coordinating the ESPN production and broadcasting of competition.

 RESPONSIBILITIES:   Serve as the primary media contact for all day-to-day public relations for the sport programs.

  • Roster and biography maintenance for student-athletes, coaches and staff.
  • Provide leadership and supervision of the Assistant Director of New Media (vacant).
  • Maintain statistics, records, team and individual information that could potentially be used by internal or external constituents.
  • Direct and manage the game day operations, including all press releases, statistics, staff, and pre and post game notes and stories.
  • Coordinate updates to the athletic department’s website (gojaspers.com).
  • Organize team photo days and assist with team videos.
  • Responsible for budget maintenance of sports communication lines.
  • Create and publicize potential human interest and feature stories to various media outlets.
  • Retain and disperse relevant and accurate information with coaches, opponents and members of the media.
  • Create content for sport-specific social media platforms while managing the department’s social media accounts.
  • Take a leadership role in assisting the department in enhancing the athletic department’s image and brand.
  • Keep abreast of current trends and developments in the field thorough various associations. 
  • Work with senior leadership in the department who have created a student intern program to acquire additional assistance.
  • Work with the department coaches and staff members to nominate qualified student-athletes for various awards at the conference or national level.
  • Serve on the Manhattan College’s Hall of Fame Selection Committee and assist in providing historical information and data on candidates.
  • Assist with the department’s special events such as Academic Honors and JASPYS.
  • Interact with key campus offices, athletic staff members, coaches, student-athletes, alumni and spectators.
  • Travel with primary teams is necessary.

 REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Bachelor’s Degree required.  Master’s Degree preferred. 

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of prior experience in Sports Communications at the Division I level preferred.
  • Individual must possess strong communications skills and a thorough command of the English language (grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc.).
  • Must possess an attention to detail.
  • Assertive, resourceful and has the ability to work in a demanding, fast-paced environment.
  • Must have working knowledge of several computer programs including Microsoft Office, Adobe PhotoShop, and StatCrew statistical program.
  • Working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Required to travel and the ability to work nights, weekends and holidays.
