Assistant/Associate Professor in School Counseling

FALL 2022

The Department of Counseling and Therapy at Manhattan College seeks outstanding applicants for a tenure-track appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, with a start date in August 2022.  This search is open to candidates specializing in School Counseling. Special consideration will be given to those with expertise in the areas of 1) working with diverse populations 2) social justice, equity and antiracism, and 3) using digital technologies to enhance teaching and learning, including teaching online.

The successful candidates in School Counseling will hold a Ph.D. in Counselor Education. All candidates will demonstrate excellence in academic research, and a proven commitment to teaching and advising students.  We seek faculty members with a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring who will create a climate that embraces excellence and diversity, to attract and retain a diverse, talented student body.  Manhattan College and its faculty view research scholarship and education as mutually supportive activities.  A successful candidate must demonstrate plans for research that integrate teaching with their scholarly interests.  This candidate must also be committed to the teacher-scholar model at a primarily teaching institution.  Manhattan College Counseling and Therapy faculty are expected to maintain high-quality teaching, an active and productive research program, and apply for external grants when appropriate.

All three programs (school counseling, mental health, and marriage and family) are 60-credit programs. We also offer students advanced certificates in bilingual and mental health counseling. With an increased focus from New York State on social and emotional learning and mental health programming for students, agencies, and families; the roles of these professionals have never been more important. Manhattan College is well positioned to meet this call in developing mental health professionals. The Counseling and Therapy Department has a strong and intimate relationship with the surrounding communities in the Bronx and Westchester, presenting opportunities for collaborations around teaching, research, and service endeavors.
