Chair of the Department of Construction Management

College of Architecture and Construction Management

 

 

The primary responsibilities of the Chair include, but are not limited to, providing academic oversight of programs, supporting a transparent shared governance environment, managing and allocating resources, establishing and implementing the Department’s strategic plan, managing and developing faculty and staff, reviewing and managing the Department’s budget, working with external advisory boards, and leading accreditation processes. Quality teaching, research and service are expected. The duties are 100% Administrative even though some teaching is recommended, but not required, to stay in touch with the student body.

 

The Department seeks a leader who can expand and promote innovative undergraduate and graduate programs. The ideal candidate should support and encourage a culture of diverse scholarship, teaching and service activities as well as foster a climate of collaboration and collegiality. The Chair should be able to effectively advocate for the needs of the Department’s programs, students, and faculty. The Chair should have a strong understanding of the needs of the Construction Industry. The candidate will also be required to assist the Dean and Business Development office in fundraising efforts for the department.

 

The sought candidate will advance the Construction Management Department through its current transitional period of growth and development in the areas of excellent teaching research and service. The position will encourage and support interdisciplinary and inter-departmental teaching, research and service. The selected candidate will continue KSU’s achievements in promoting equity, diversity and inclusion and student success in higher education.

 

The next Department Chair will be a creative and collaborative leader for the position. Situated within the College of Architecture and Construction Management (CACM), this position reports to the CACM Dean and partners with the Architecture Department Chair and the CACM Associate Deans to create an environment of academic excellence in the college.

 

 

Required Qualifications Include:

 

  • An earned doctoral degree, or its foreign equivalent, in Construction Management or a closely related field
  • Rank of Full professor or associate professor with an academic background and appropriate credentials to be a tenured professor in accordance with the KSU/CACM promotion and tenure guidelines
  • A minimum of seven years United States construction experience Preferred Qualifications Include:
  • A working knowledge of ACCE accreditation and the Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) is highly valued

 

  • An ability to successfully develop and implement a strategic vision
  • A demonstrated commitment to a diverse work environment, including successfully working with and promoting diverse populations, scholarship, and teaching activities
  • A demonstrated ability to engage effectively with external business and professional communities, Advisory Board, and funding agencies
  • Experience in securing national-level external funding
  • Professional Engineering licensure is recommended but not required
