The Center for Human Factors Excellence at the Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality is seeking a Human Factors Project Administrator to support research projects aimed at improving quality and safety of care and safety of health care worker safety.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage the operational aspects of administrative and scientific implementation of a transdisciplinary and applied large-scale research studies aimed at improving infection prevention and control in health care settings, improving healthcare worker safety, and other projects as assigned.
  • Work collaboratively with the PI and the study team members to develop a detailed operational plan and strategies to achieve the study goals.
  • Work collaboratively with the study team to assure that study deliverables and report schedules are met as required by the granting agency; track completion of assigned tasks; and any other duties as needed.
  • Conduct literature review and summarize findings.
  • Assist in the preparation of study protocols and materials and other essential study functions.
  • Recruit study participants.
  • Schedule interviews and assist with collecting qualitative data through observations, interviews and focus groups with care professionals and clinicians in a variety of care settings including, but not limited to, ED, Operating Room and home healthcare.
  • Assist in the analysis and management of qualitative and basic quantitative data; ensure that data analysis is completed in a timely manner.
  • Assist in preparation of manuscripts, presentation slides, and any other deliverables.
  • Assist with the writing and development progress and final reports, study tools and documents, meeting minutes, and help lead meetings and conference calls with study team and various stakeholders.
  • Help with other relevant work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Bachelor’s Degree with four years of relevant experience required.
  • Advanced Degrees such as Master's Degree, DrPH, DPN, PhD, etc. are strongly preferred.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.*

* JHU Equivalency Formula:  30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.  Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with/ experience in health care environments is highly desirable.
  • Interest in working on research projects aimed at improving infection control and prevention practices, design research, and healthcare worker safety.
  • Willing to learn about human factors engineering and basics of infection control/prevention basic principles under the guidance of the study leads.
  • Strong interest and/or experience in improving health care quality and safety and health care worker safety is preferred.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong project management skills required.
  • Excellent project management skills. Previous experience with managing large scale federally funded research projects in health care.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in research projects.
  • Ability to balance and prioritize tasks, and delivers timely outcome.
  • Effective team management and communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Expertise and/or experience in research processes and methodologies including qualitative and quantitative research and data analysis methods.
  • Strong interest in conducting field research in health care environments.
  • Experience in reviewing literature using common databases, and use of reference software such as Refworks and Endnote.
  • Experience in data collection protocols and analysis tools (e.g., REDCap, NVIVO), and IRB protocol preparation.
