Position Summary

The Department of Infectious Diseases in the College of Veterinary Medicine ( CVM ) and the Savannah River Ecology Laboratory ( SREL ) at the University of Georgia invite applications for a tenure-track Associate Professor in the area of vector ecology. This position will be located at the University of Georgia main campus (https://vet.uga.edu/id). Areas of research might include, but are not limited to: pathogen and vector responses to climate change or land use, emerging vector-borne diseases, evolutionary strategies for limiting the spread of insecticide and drug resistance in pathogens and vectors, determinants of host shifts within and between ecosystems, behavioral influences of infectious disease dynamics, terrestrial-aquatic linkages, and modeling infectious disease dynamics across scales of organization. Candidates should have a strong question-driven research program, which incorporates experimental (e.g., field, laboratory, molecular) approaches, to address the most challenging problems in one or more of these areas. The University of Georgia has world-renowned departmental programs in both infectious diseases (https://vet.uga.edu/id) and ecology (http://www.ecology.uga.edu), which are augmented by research centers focused on parasitology (https://ctegd.uga.edu) and disease ecology (https://srel.uga.edu, and
http://ceid.uga.edu). This faculty position is intended to strengthen ties between units that offer much support for collaboration in areas of graduate training, research and undergraduate education. The candidate will have priority access to newly constructed Arthropod Containment Level II/ III and BSL II/ III facilities, and will have access to a wide variety of molecular and contaminant analysis equipment available to faculty. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain a rigorous, externally funded, and nationally recognized research programs, and contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentoring.

The Savannah River Ecology Laboratory ( SREL ) is a research unit of the University of Georgia located on the 300 mi2 Savannah River Site, a secure US Department of Energy facility near Aiken, SC. With a staff of over 175 faculty members, postdocs, research professionals, technicians, and graduate students, the laboratory pursues basic and applied research at multiple levels of ecological organization, from atoms to ecosystems. SREL also provides opportunities for graduate and undergraduate research training, and service to the community through environmental outreach. Throughout its 70-year history SREL has strived to acquire and communicate knowledge that contributes to sound ecological stewardship.
