Classification Title:

Postdoctoral Associate

Job Description:

Research in the Ash lab is focused on developing a deep understanding of retinal diseases causing blindness and then using this knowledge to develop new therapies to prevent them. The first project seeks to uncover the role of dysregulated mitochondrial function in retinal degeneration and the discovery of new therapeutic targets. The project studies the role of AMPK in regulating retinal metabolism in health and disease. The second project seeks to identify inflammation and the integrated stress responses transcriptional networks that regulate retinal degeneration in mammals and regeneration in fish. Both projects use hypothesis-driven studies combined with discovery-based multi-omic approaches.

Ideal candidates will have a Ph.D. in biochemistry, cell biology, neuroscience, or bioinformatics, and strong written and verbal communication skills. A 2.5-year minimum commitment and qualification to apply for an F32 or K99/R00 grant application are required.

These projects require work with rodent models of retinal degeneration, retinal structure and function characterization by optical coherence tomography and electroretinography, gene expression analysis by RT-qPCR and RNAseq, and protein expression by Western blots. The work also requires extensive data analysis, including integrating data from RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, proteomics, and metabolomics.

Expected Salary:

$47,476 - $57,476

Minimum Requirements:

A Ph.D. in biochemistry, cell biology, neuroscience, or bioinformatics. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
