Ball State University’s Department of Theatre and Dance welcomes applicants for an Assistant Teaching Professor of Musical Theatre.
The Ball State Department of Theatre and Dance is growing and changing. We offer eight diverse curricular options that develop and nurture each student’s creativity, curiosity, and collaborative skills. We inspire our students to be thinkers, responsible citizens, and motivated artists who will make a difference in creating the next generation’s voice. We are seeking collegial, collaborative faculty with excellent communication and organizational skills to join us.
The department is a BFA /BA/BS undergraduate-only program with over 400 theatre majors, 65 dance majors and 45 full-time faculty/staff. This includes 80 majors within our nationally recognized BFA musical theatre program. The musical theatre area features showcase opportunities in New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles, along with senior level cabaret performances for all graduating seniors at The Cabaret in Indianapolis and at Joe’s Pub at The Public Theatre in New York City. The Department plays an active role in the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival ( KCACTF ) and with the American College Dance Association ( ACDA ). Ball State is accredited by both the National Association of Schools of Theatre ( NAST ) and the National Association of Schools of Dance ( NASD ). Our undergraduate only program, low student-to-faculty ratio, hands-on advising and mentoring from a faculty of working professionals, and distinguished guest artists allow for the personal development of each student as both an individual and an artist.

Description
Ball State University seeks an individual with a commitment to collaborative discourse, interdisciplinary inquiry, and entrepreneurial learning practices as a musical theatre teacher within a Nationally recognized BFA program in musical theatre. The successful candidate will be a versatile teacher in the discipline who can play an active role in the crafting of curriculum, recruitment of students, and building connections within the area that will further enhance the opportunities presented to our students during and after their matriculation. Applicants should also be committed to inclusive pedagogies in their teaching, scholarship, and artistry.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in voice, musical theatre, or related discipline or equivalent professional experience completed by date of employment.
Experience teaching voice lessons to students within the musical theatre discipline at the collegiate level.
Experience or related expertise that would allow the candidate to teach one or more of the following additional musical theatre courses: sight singing, basic musicianship, introductory acting and singing actor courses, ensemble singing.
One year of teaching experience at the university/college level.
Authorization to work in the US
Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in theatre or related discipline completed by date of employment with a minimum of 10 years experience as an artist, performer, musical director, or director on Broadway or in major Regional Theatre venues
Three years of teaching experience at the university/college level.
Ability to serve as a pianist for class and/or a musical director within production work when needed.
Substantial experience as an artist, performer, musical director, or director on Broadway or in major Regional Theatre venues.
Connections and recognitions within the professional musical theatre industry.
