We are actively recruiting a postdoctoral clinical research fellow to the Children’s Service Use and Disparities Solutions (C-SUDS) Lab in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

The ideal applicant will have training and experience in pediatric clinical psychology, psychiatry, social work, or a related field. Interest and experience in mental health services research, health disparities, and quantitative analysis methods are highly desired, though not required.

The postdoctoral research fellow will work primarily with Andrea S. Young, PhD, along with John Campo, MD and other research team members, and contribute to research focused on pediatric health and mental health services and disparities, including work leveraging data housed in the electronic medical record. Qualified candidates may have the opportunity to provide direct patient care in a pediatric community psychiatry setting under the supervision of Dr. Young.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Work collaboratively with study team on federally- and locally-funded children’s health services-focused research and program development projects
  • Manage and perform data collection activities
  • Assist in the analysis and management of data
  • Assist in the preparation of study protocols and materials (e.g., IRB) and other essential functions
  • Conduct literature reviews and summarize findings
  • Author/co-author research manuscripts
  • Help with writing grant proposals, lead writing career grants (if interested and applicable)
Education:
  • PhD (or equivalent) in Clinical, Counseling, or School Psychology or a related field is required.
Experience & Required Skills:
  • An individual with formal training in clinical psychology or a related field.
  • Good understanding of related research processes and methodologies including quantitative research methods.
  • Familiarity with quantitative analysis methods and corresponding software experience (e.g., statistical analysis with SPSS, SAS, STATA, MPLUS, and/or R)
  • Strong interest in conducting health services research and program development.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively as part of a research team
  • Ability to balance and prioritize tasks, and delivers timely outcomes
  • Excellent problem solving, organizational, writing and communication skills
Nice to Have:
  • Experience using electronic medical records systems such as (but not limited to) EPIC.
  • Experience with engaging in program evaluation/quality improvement projects.
  • Familiarity with the healthcare domain and experience conducting research in healthcare.
  • Experience in IRB protocol preparation

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
