Loyola Marymount University’s School of Film and Television invites applications for a Clinical Assistant Professor in Cinema in the area of directing film/television, for a one-year appointment in the Department of Film and Television Production. This is a non-tenure-position. This is a full-time faculty role with competitive salary and benefits. The position is anticipated to start in August 2022.

The Department of Film & Television Production is looking for candidates with experience directing long-format fiction film or television episodes, candidates with an established, successful record in short filmmaking will also be considered. Applicants must have a proven distribution record or festival play (we welcome non-traditional distribution platforms, as well as well as diverse festivals).

The successful candidate will primarily be teaching courses in the “directing/production”-sequence, i.e. courses where students produce & direct a short film over the course of one or two semesters.

The selected candidate will be expected to teach the required full-time teaching load of three (3) courses per semester. The candidate will be required to advise and mentor students in their course- and career-choices in the field, and to provide service to the department.

Required qualifications:

  • Evidence of professional practice in directing fiction films (film or television) through commercial distribution or extensive festival play

Prior Teaching Experience

Prior university or professional-level teaching experience are preferred.
