This position leads the Development Office efforts to raise planned gifts. This individual cultivates, solicits, and stewards donors with primary interests in planned giving, and includes solicitations for outright annual, major, and principal gifts as appropriate. Raises restricted and unrestricted gifts for the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth and Dartmouth-Hitchcock, in support of the priorities outlined by leadership in both organizations while simultaneously being donor-focused. The incumbent serves as a charitable gift-planning advisor to staff and donors in the context of campaigns and ongoing fundraising efforts. Experience
* Five plus years of experience in planned giving, law, development, financial services, or the equivalent (may include both professional experience and relevant advanced education).
* Background in sales, marketing, or communications.

Skills & Knowledge
* Strong interest in developing technical expertise in tax, investment, and legal aspects of charitable giving.
* Superlative written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated presentation abilities.
* Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with appropriate discretion.
Strong understanding of the stages of cultivation, qualification, solicitation, and stewardship within the philanthropic cycle.
Ability to staff evening and weekend donor events during the year.
* Demonstrated integrity.
* Excellent oral, written, and project management skills.
* Strong interpersonal skills and adept at both negotiating and listening.
* Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, self-motivated and proactive.
* Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and to set priorities.
* Expertise in operating database, spreadsheet, and Web-based software applications in a complex computer information system environment.
* Strong commitment to diversity.

Preferred Qualifications
Education
* Advanced degree in a related field (business administration, tax, or law) or rigorous professional designation ( CPA, CFA, CFP, or securities license) is preferred, as are designations in the following areas: Certified Trust and Financial Advisor ( CTFA ); Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy ( CAP ); Certified Gift Planning Associate ( CGPA ); Certified Gift Planning Professional ( CGPP ); and Certified Fundraising Executive ( CFRE ).

Skills & Knowledge
* Knowledge of PG Calc planned giving software preferred; strong overall computer skills.

Key Accountabilities

Description
Fundraising
* Works independently and with partners to cultivate donors and potential supporters who make steady (but not necessarily significant) donations to the medical school and/or the health system who have been identified to have the capacity for four-to-seven-figure planned gifts.
* Conducts face-to-face donor and potential supporter visits and other meaningful cultivation activities, occasionally in tandem with senior officers, volunteer leaders, and development colleagues, to provide information and direction for gift planning options.
* Contributes to overall Gift Planning goals by raising/securing life income gifts and promoting/documenting bequest expectancies. Solicits donors and potential supporters and stewards them appropriately.
* In collaboration with the Prospect Management and Research team, confirms donor’s stage in the development process, devises written plans of action for all donors in the prospect pool, and requests research and analysis to confirm capacity, inclination, and interests of donors and potential supporters. Collaboration
* Collaborates with the Dartmouth College Gift Planning team, sharing best practices and knowledge of planned giving and planned giving prospects.
* Educates donors, medical leaders, volunteers, and staff colleagues about various gift-planning options. Manages planned giving volunteers.
* Performs gift planning calculations and strategies, and prepares financial proposals for all staff portfolios/colleagues as appropriate. Makes presentations on tax, investment, and legal aspects of charitable gifts to internal and external audiences.
* Provides expertise in the management and administration of planned gifts; works closely with all relevant colleagues and Dartmouth College and Dartmouth-Hitchcock offices involved in the management and administration of planned gifts for the medical enterprise. Percentage Of Time 30 Description
Program Management
* Establishes and implements the strategic direction of gift planning programs for the Development Office.
* Designs and administers a collaborative, donor-centered gift-planning program. Works with colleagues in Advancement Communications to design and execute annual planned giving marketing plans and outreach to make the case for support of Dartmouth-Hitchcock and the Geisel School of Medicine through planned giving vehicles.
* Recommends publication content for planned gifts and stewardship opportunities and planned giving Web content to enhance office’s digital strategy.
* Collaborates, educates, and assists fundraising staff in the identification of donor-centered gift planning opportunities and vehicles with their prospects, including opportunities to integrate their philanthropic objectives with their overall tax, estate and financial planning in a tax-efficient manner. Ensures application of appropriate policies and procedures for “best practices” in gift planning.
* Collaborates with senior-level fundraisers to promote gift planning ideas and offer the full range of giving opportunities to high net worth families and prospects, focused on family wealth planning, gifts of complex assets, and multi-generational strategies to enhance the likelihood of transformational gifts.
* Enhances the planned giving program with creative new ways to educate and solicit planned giving prospects.
* Works with D-H member hospitals to market planned gifts and to offer other programmatic support as appropriate.
* Participates in long-range planning for the program and provides relevant input in the budgeting and operations planning process. Percentage Of Time 20 Description
