Plans, develops, implements, and assesses a range of learning experiences in library research tools, methods, and strategies, across STEM areas, with particular focus on undergraduate majors in science & engineering fields. Builds connections and relationships with STEM -focused programs, groups, and initiatives to increase engagement with and awareness of key library resources and services. Manages collections in general and popular science areas.

Description Required Qualifications - Education and Yrs Exp Masters plus 2-3 years' experience or equivalent combination of education and experience Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
  • ALA -accredited degree in library and/or information science, or a combination of an advanced subject or professional degree combined with experience.
  • Two years of relevant postgraduate experience.
  • Demonstrated skill in developing, delivering, and assessing effective programs, services, and outreach relevant to academic libraries.
  • Experience and proficiency with effective teaching methods and practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work flexibly and effectively in groups.
  • Strong organizational skills; ability to prioritize tasks, manage time, and complete projects.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Academic background in one of the STEM fields.
  • Knowledge of and proficiency with key information resources in one or more of the sciences; knowledgeable about scientific research and publication practices.

Key Accountabilities

Description
Develops, delivers, and assesses instruction in library resources and research methods within the undergraduate science curriculum. Plans and develops complementary learning content (research guides, tutorials, screencasts). Coordinates closely with other STEM librarians as to instructional programming in liaison subject areas as well as relevant interdisciplinary programs and centers. Percentage Of Time 30% Description
Develops, offers, and assesses creative and engaging co-curricular programs that support student academic, writing, and research efforts in STEM areas. Examples of programming might address themes such as science writing, publishing, and communication; citizen science; data literacy; career preparedness; and science, society, and ethics. Builds relationships, and seeks opportunities to collaborate with, campus partners including Undergraduate Advising & Research; Center for Professional Development; and the Institute for Writing & Rhetoric. Connects with, and seeks opportunities to collaborate with, campus partners that offer programmatic support to underrepresented groups in STEM, including the Women in Science Project ( WISP ) and the E.E. Just and Mellon Mays programs. Percentage Of Time 20% Description
Develops, maintains, and assesses print and digital resources and collections in general and popular science. Percentage Of Time 10% Description
Provides general reference consultations and assistance in discovering, accessing, and managing publications, data, and other information formats. Percentage Of Time 10% Description
Participates in departmental planning, goal-setting, and discussions related to activities and projects, policies, and improvements to services. Contributes to the work of groups or committees on library-wide initiatives and projects. Percentage Of Time 5% Description
Actively engages in ongoing professional development. Stays current with trends in science, engineering, and data librarianship; and with educational technologies and pedagogy. Contributes to the profession through involvement in relevant national and regional professional associations. Percentage Of Time 5%
