The senior internal communications specialist plays an integral role in crafting & deploying SU’s internal communications’ strategy thru content creation and distribution. The senior internal communications’ specialist will support the team’s mission to enhance access to, understand of and engage with important university info and initiatives. Through the creation of various forms of content across platforms, he/she will help the internal communications team create and activate internal university champions; help celebrate successes and amplify victories; and protect and strengthen SU’s identity. The senior internal communications specialist, under the leadership of the director and associate director of Internal Communications, will help identify and create strategic content and work toward, continuously assess and achieve defined metrics for success. He/she will work to provide students faculty and staff more visibility to the SU’s initiatives, progress against goals and engagement opportunities. He/she will work with the internal communications team to better educate and inform internal stakeholders and foster a sense of camaraderie and pride among students, faculty and staff. He/she must be an effective communicator, strong collaborator and have the ability to influence and build our internal communications capabilities. The senior internal communications specialist will also work with the associate vice president of communications to develop and implement content on the WeChat social media platform. Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations or marketing.
  • Internal communications specialist should have five (5) plus years of experience working in a strategic communications environment.
Job Specific Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple demanding initiatives concurrently, balancing multiple priorities, working with minimal supervision and meeting deadlines.
  • Experience in developing and executing University wide communications strategies and programs. Demonstrated experience utilizing social media, content management systems and other technological communication tools and methodologies.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, excellent strategic communications capabilities and a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with leadership, supervisors and colleagues.
  • Experience with email communications systems, content management systems and other technologies designed to support communications strategies. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Calm under pressure. Can manage stressful situations in a solution-oriented way with a positive attitude. Comfortable working irregular hours.
  • Must be outcome driven, resourceful and committed to collaboration. Higher education experience strongly preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Creates content for the various owned channels, including SU News, that effectively engage with our internal audiences and to inform them on our strategic internal initiatives and key messages.
  • Through the use of various technologies, develop content for various platforms, including podcasts, and identify new technologies and platforms that will help to better meet our audiences where they are.
  • Develop critical internal communications materials, including email communications, key messages, web content and other essential documents.
  • Conceptualize, create, support and execute internal communications strategies.
  • Supports associate vice president with assistance on content planning and creation to reach University audiences on the WeChat social media platform.
  • Works closely with business units, team and other teams to ensure effective prioritization and planning annually of key initiatives that require internal communications. Ensures resources are in place to partner with other units to build internal plans that help them advance their strategic priorities.
  • Provides support to the director and associate director of internal communications, senior leaders in various departments including the Provost’s office, Human Resources and other administrative units.
  • Stays up-to-date on industry trends.
