Summary/Objective

The Development Coordinator for the Kogod School of Business is responsible for performing a variety of complex administrative projects related to the major gift development operations of the Kogod School of Business. Under the direction of KSB’s Director of Development, the Development Coordinator provides administrative support to the KSB Development team and serves as a liaison between KSB and development colleagues to strategically engage constituents throughout the donor cycle. The position will be responsible for providing extensive administrative support to the KSB Development team, consisting of two major gift officers. The Development Coordinator will be an energetic, strategic, team- and goal-oriented individual who can operate independently in a fast-paced, highly professional environment as an integral member the Development & Alumni Relations staff. The role is an exciting opportunity to help grow Kogod’s fundraising enterprise and advance the school’s mission to leverage a business education as a force for meaningful change as part of American University’s historic comprehensive campaign. Successful candidates will demonstrate an interest in the field of development—including prospect research, data management and reporting, and volunteer management—while exhibiting a high customer focused orientation when interfacing with internal staff members and external clients such as donors and/or alumni. This individual has a desire to work as part of a team with an all hands on deck approach and maintains a "no job is too big or small" philosophy.

Essential Functions
  1. Administrative Support:Providing administrative support to the KSB major gift officers including creation of briefing materials for high-level donors and prospects, assisting in the production and editing of major gift proposals, acknowledging gifts, maintaining calendar schedules, and providing routine development communications and opportunities to the Dean.
  2. Reporting and Database Management:Producing all reports and tracking of the KSB Development team’s gifts and metrics, ensuring all contact summaries and activities are entered into the database, requesting updates to constituent records to ensure data accuracy, and fulfilling all alumni and donor list requests.
  3. Prospect Management and Research:Work in concert with Development and Alumni Relations colleagues to assist in updating KSB portfolios and prospect stages, prepare materials for team portfolio reviews, conduct research to gain background and wealth information of high-level donors and prospects, and support the KSB Development team in managing prospect portfolios to the point of gift solicitation.
  4. Stewardship:Assists major gift officers in creating personalized stewardship reports and touchpoints for high-level donors and prospects, maintain tracking of active stewardship of current donors, assist with scholarship awarding process, and help implement new strategies for thoughtful donor engagement.
  5. Other duties as assignedby the Director of Development.

Required Education and Experience

Education, Training, and/or Experience Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited educational institution or equivalent education, training and experience required.
  • Two or more years of successful experience in a higher education setting or related experience required.

Other Skills and Abilities Required:
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills (a writing sample may be required).
  • Integrity and trust with a demonstrated ability to manage highly confidential information.
  • Ability to manage a busy office with competing demands; not easily flustered nor easily overwhelmed by a high volume of activity and projects.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with databases and/or other fundraising systems, and strong command of MS Office Suite of products.
