The Butler University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences seeks a collegial, dynamic faculty member to teach and conduct research in a 12-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Eligibility for hire:
  • A doctoral degree in medicinal chemistry, chemistry with an emphasis on biologically active compounds, or a closely related field.
  • Experience in cheminformatics or computational chemistry and active engagement in research broadly related to pharmaceutical sciences.
  • Ideally, candidates would have teaching experience and a desire to use innovative teaching methods to educate pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists.
Job Description:
  • The main teaching responsibilities of the hired applicant will be medicinal chemistry lectures and group learning sessions in the Doctor of Pharmacy program, in a four-course series titled “Principles of Drug Action”, which integrates medicinal chemistry and pharmacology. The hired applicant will teach courses for M.S. programs in Pharmaceutical Sciences and/or Data Analytics.
  • The hired applicant will be expected to provide innovative and varied learning experiences. The Butler Center for Academic Technology (CAT) ( https://www.butler.edu/cat ) supports learning by working with faculty to promote thoughtful and effective use of academic technology and instructional approaches. 
  • The hired applicant will engage students in the Doctor of Pharmacy, M.S. in Pharmaceutical Science, and M.S. in Data Analytics (Bioinformatics) degree programs in research experiences.  
  • The hired applicant is expected to seek extramural research funding and conduct innovative research in a collaborative fashion that integrates the chemical sciences, life sciences, and data mining in drug discovery. We are particularly interested in candidates who bridge chemical and biological information using large, diverse datasets.
There are unique opportunities for interactions between basic scientists and clinical pharmacists at Butler University.
