About the University:

California State University Channel Islands (CSUCI) opened in 2002 as the newest campus in the California State University system. Since that time, the University has grown and developed into one of the premier public universities, not only in the California State University system, but also in the nation. About the Program:

Chicana/o Studies is an interdisciplinary department at California State University Channel Islands (CI) that offers a Bachelor of Arts and a minor. Chicana/o Studies is committed to students, community, scholarship and social justice. We offer a curriculum that examines historical and contemporary experiences of Chicanas/os and Latinas/os through a hemispheric approach, including the United States, Mexico, Central America, South America and the Caribbean. It used a transborder lens from which to question the critical junctures facing our society, whether it be issues of immigrant and labor rights, educational equality, racial, class, and gender equity, health justice, cultural production, or social movements. We approach these issues using decolonial, interdisciplinary, transnational and comparative/relational perspectives. The core courses at the lower and upper division level will provide majors with a solid training in Chicana/o Studies while providing them the opportunity to major, minor or double major in other disciplines. Chicana/o Studies affords students the opportunity for applied learning and community-based research of the multidimensional experiences of the Chicana/o and Latina/o Community in local and global contexts.

About the Position:

We are currently seeking qualified part-time instructors to teach the following course(s) in Spring 2022.

CHS 402: Southern California Chicana/o History and Culture (Cross-listed as Hist 402)

Minimum Degree Requirements:

Master's Degree in Chicana/o Studies or Latina/o Studies, Ethnic Studies or History and other relevant Social Science or Humanities discipline;

ABD considered;
Ph.D. or equivalent preferred.

Required Qualifications :

• Appropriate training in a field/sub-field relative to the teaching assignment; strong commitment to undergraduate education; a record of effective teaching experience including interactive classroom strategies; and commitment to work in a student-centered multi-ethnic and multi-racial environments.
• Applicants should demonstrate the commitment to effectively work with and engage a diverse student population and evidence of how they would successfully mentor minoritized students with special focus on Latinx, Black/African American, American Indian, and Asian/Asian American/Pacific Islander students.

Preferred Qualifications :

• The preferred candidate will have at least an M.A., preferably a Ph.D (or ABD), plus a record of effective teaching with a variety of appropriate methodologies; experience in the use of innovative instructional strategies and technologies; an established research agenda that could involve undergraduates; interdisciplinary teaching experience; experience with curriculum and program development; experience in and commitment to ongoing teaching and learning assessment; experience in teaching community service learning courses; facility in Spanish, or other language skills relevant to our community.

Responsibilities:

The major responsibilities include instruction of course and meeting with students during office hours.

• A statement describing your experience mentoring and/or working with minoritized students with a special focus on Latinx, Black/African American, Asian/Asian American/Pacific Islander and American Indian students, and
• A teaching philosophy describing how you plan to engage and interact with students, with a special focus on Latinx, Black/African American, Asian/Asian American/Pacific Islander, and American Indian students.
