Primary Function

The primary function of this position in the Department of Counseling and Hire Education is to assist the Department Chair in the operation of the department. The person in this position reports directly to the Chair of the Department of Counseling and Higher Education through the Department Office Administrator. The Department Chair and Administrator participate in the evaluation process for this person.
Duties and Responsibilities (generally)

The primary function of the person holding this position is to assist in the direction of the academic programs and related administrative activities for the Department of Counseling and Higher Education under the direction of the Department Chair and Office Administrator. This position will help support the fiscal oversight of the department, and assist with personnel actions, travel vouchers and purchasing. This person must maintain contact with Student Services, the Graduate School, Outreach Services, and the Office of Registration and Records. This person also has responsibility for handling confidential information and materials, including student academic records. This position utilizes word processing, spreadsheet, data base management, and other computer hardware and software and requires a good knowledge of computer use and applications.
Minimum Required Qualifications for this position

1. High school graduation or equivalent.

2. One (1) year (12 months) of work experience comparable to the second level of this series.

3. Any one or any combination of the following, totaling two (2) years (24 months) of experience in the categories below: work experience performing office/clerical activities, including use of computer systems college or university coursework in any curriculum twelve (12) semester hours = six (6) months twenty-four (24) semester hours = twelve (12) months thirty-six (36) semester hours = eighteen (18) months forty-eight (48) semester hours = twenty-four (24) months

Education and Experience Preferred

The office manager should be knowledgeable in the operation of the computer, scanner, fax, calculator, and copying machine. Possess proficiency with Microsoft Office software package, specifically Excel, Word and Access. Knowledge of MYNIU and On-Base, preferred.
List the knowledge, skills, and abilities critical to the performance of this position.

It is not only essential for the office manager to possess efficient office skills, but also to demonstrate effective communication skills. The office manager must also act in a professional manner when dealing with personnel throughout the university and with the general public.

$13.05 to $14.08
