The Ball State Department of Theatre and Dance is growing and changing. We offer eight diverse curricular options that develop and nurture each student’s creativity, curiosity, and collaborative skills. We inspire our students to be thinkers, responsible citizens, and motivated artists who will make a difference in creating the next generation’s voice. We are seeking collegial, collaborative faculty with excellent communication and organizational skills to join us.

The department is a BFA /BA/BS undergraduate-only program with over 400 theatre majors, 65 dance majors and 45 full-time faculty/staff. This includes 65 majors within our nationally recognized BFA acting program and 80 students within our BFA musical theatre program. The BFA performance areas features showcase opportunities in New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles, along with senior level capstone performances for all graduating seniors. The Department plays an active role in the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival ( KCACTF ) and with the American College Dance Association ( ACDA ). Ball State is accredited by both the National Association of Schools of Theatre ( NAST ) and the National Association of Schools of Dance ( NASD ). Our undergraduate only program, low student-to-faculty ratio, hands-on advising and mentoring from a faculty of working professionals, and distinguished guest artists allow for the personal development of each student as both an individual and an artist.

Description

Ball State University seeks an individual with a commitment to collaborative discourse, interdisciplinary inquiry, and entrepreneurial learning practices as an acting teacher and coach within the BFA performance areas. The successful candidate will be an accomplished pedagogue who will play an active role in the crafting of curriculum, recruitment of students, and building connections within the discipline that will further enhance the opportunities presented to our students during and after their matriculation. Applicants should also be committed to inclusive pedagogies in their teaching, scholarship, and artistry

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in performance or equivalent professional experience completed by date of employment.

Experience teaching acting to students in a rigorous setting.

Experience and expertise as a coach of monologues and scenes at the BFA collegiate level.

Experience or related expertise that would allow the candidate to teach in at least two of the following additional courses: acting for the camera, audition techniques, or the business of theatre.

One year of teaching experience at the university/college level.

Authorization to work in the US

Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

M.F.A. in Acting completed by date of employment.

Three years of teaching experience at the university/college level.

Ability to serve as a director for production work when needed.

Experience with contemporary and current repertoire within the acting industry. This includes work with new playwrights, inclusive authors, current work being done in film and television, and non-linear texts.

Substantial experience as an actor, performer, director, or coach on Broadway or in major Regional Theatre venues.

Connections and recognitions within the professional acting and/or musical theatre industries.
