Position Purpose

The purpose of this position to help build and apply system planning and statistical models to explore historical system dynamics and future decarbonization pathways, with a focus on evaluating tradeoffs between cost, land use, social justice, air quality, and labor in the industrial and energy sectors. The postdoctoral scholar position is in the Mayfield Lab – an interdisciplinary, computational lab focused on just energy and industrial transition planning in regional and national contexts – at Dartmouth College, Thayer School of Engineering.

Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

• PhD in relevant fields including environmental planning, energy systems engineering, operations research, geography, environmental economics, energy resources, computer science, environmental engineering.
• At least four years of relevant research experience. Candidates with additional non-academic work experience, with nontraditional academic backgrounds, and/or from members of groups that historically have been underrepresented in science and engineering are encouraged to apply.
• Demonstrated research ability and vison, excellent written and spoken communication skills, and comfort working both collaboratively and independently.
• Expertise in data science, machine learning, statistics, and/or simulation and familiarity with statistical software and programming languages (e.g., R, Python).

Preferred Qualifications

• Expertise in geospatial analysis and familiarity with geographic information systems software (e.g., ArcGIS).
• Familiarity with modeling environmental and socioeconomic impacts.
• Familiarity with macro-energy systems models.
• Position may be fully or partially remote for all or part of the term, at the discretion of both the research associate and supervisor.
