Position Summary

The School of Engineering & Applied Sciences ( SEAS ) invites applications for the position of Immigration Assistant.

The Immigration Assistant will:
  • Support all SEAS departments in the preparation of employment-based immigration requests (for working visas, renewals, applications to permanent residency, etc.) including advising departments on preparing forms, communicating with applicants (as needed) and preparing applications for School-level employees.
  • Review all requests for completeness in the forms and supporting documents before transmitting to the University at Buffalo Immigration Services ( UBIS ) office. Track the status of applications as they progress to USCIS .
  • Work with departments to submit the I-9 reverification form with the supporting documentation to the eptf system.
  • Send out periodic inquiries to departments regarding the status of renewals and new requests, to ensure timely submission.
  • If compiling a visa request for a SEAS -level employee, acquire and verify employee documentation and complete all required forms.
  • Help disseminate information on procedures and SEAS immigration procedures, set up and maintain files, and track current expiration dates across the School, delivering periodic reports to the Assistant Dean for Human Resources. Field questions from faculty and administrators, referring questions to UBIS for legal guidance.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of changes in immigration policy nationally and procedures at the University.

Minimum Qualifications

Associates degree with 3 or more years relevant experience in immigration law or a related field, or a Bachelor’s degree with 1 or more years of experience in immigration law or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications

Paralegal certification is strongly preferred, as is demonstrated experience working with immigration law.
