Job Summary:

The Strategic Communications Graphic Designer/Photographer is responsible for developing and implementing a wide variety of communication materials, publication and collateral pieces for the college, ensuring the materials are professional in quality and provide a cohesive design that is consistent with college identity standards, as directed by the Columbia College Brand Manual. This position will also serve as the college’s primary photographer.
  • Perform job duties in accordance with Columbia College’s vision, mission and values, and contribute to the development of the Advancement Division.
  • Conceptualize and develop creative projects (print and digital) from start to finish in order to project a consistent image of the college.
  • Manage client expectations and deliver creative solutions for strategic communications that meet and/or exceed objectives/expectations.
  • Coordinate with client to organize and maintain job schedules ensuring projects are completed within production deadlines and within budget.
  • Estimate cost of print production by consulting in-house and external printing companies as well as handling the distribution of the printed pieces.
  • Serve as the college’s head photographer, maintain photo equipment, manage photo storage and schedule shoots.
  • Occasionally serve as videographer, when needed, to provide footage or final productions while maintaining files and equipment.
  • Assist in the supervision of student workers and coordinating projects with freelance graphic designers.
  • Work with external photographers and videographers and be the liaison for the college.
  • Attend various committee meetings, representing the Advancement Division.
  • Serve as the college’s graphic design and photography expert and point of contact.
  • The position will occasionally be asked to write short stories/media pitches/captions for photos.
  • Create and submit monthly overview reports to the Senior Director of Strategic Communications, highlighting measurable results.
  • Strive towards achieving excellent organizational skills to ensure that communications are made and responded to in a timely manner, without prompting.
  • Fulfill additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Graphic Design or Communications preferred
  • Proficiency for using a variety of computer and technology-related software and web-based systems including Adobe Suite, Photoshelter, Microsoft Office and project management applications.
  • Demonstrate willingness to embrace diversity, equity and inclusion so we maintain a welcoming environment for all and we incorporate equity into our communications.
  • Work a full-time schedule with occasional duties on nights and weekends and be able to travel as needed.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality is crucial.
