Description:
Pratt Institute's School of Architecture seeks qualified candidates for the position of Chairperson for the Construction Management (ABET/IFMA accredited), Facilities Management (ABET/IFMA accredited), and Real Estate Practice programs (CM/FM/REP). The ideal candidate will possess both professional and academic experience, effective and inclusive communication skills; expertise in strategic planning; and a vision of how they intend to develop and lead a suite of dynamic and forward-thinking construction programs into the future. The CM/FM/REP programs are under the auspices of the School of Architecture within Pratt Institute.

Role and Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Dean of the School of Architecture, the Chairperson's key responsibilities include:

  • General administration, departmental leadership, supporting the school's strategic priorities and the Institute's Strategic Plan.

  • Fundraising and profile-raising of the department, support of students; support of faculty.

  • Working collaboratively with other departments, the School and Institute, and outside stakeholders, partners, alumni and other constituents.

  • Recruitment and retention of students, including but not limited to participation in admissions recruitment events and outreach.

  • Coordinate curriculum, meet accreditation requirements and provide intellectual and pedagogical leadership for the department, including interdepartmental and interdisciplinary programs, courses and activities.

  • Advising students, addressing their concerns regarding departmental issues in accordance with Institute policies and procedures, auditing student academic records, organizing work placements and other opportunities for industry interaction.

  • Hold regularly scheduled faculty meetings that allow for faculty input in departmental decisions, and mentoring and advising faculty.

  • Serving on department, school, and Institute committees and representing the department at various meetings, workshops, and forums on and off-campus.

  • Coordinating various end-of-semester, mid-program, and end-of-degree reviews as well as internal and external exhibition events.

  • Managing department program finances, including leading annual budget planning and facility and space planning efforts.


Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree in Construction Management, Facilities Management, Real Estate Practice, Architecture, or a related field.

  • Administrative experience managing or coordinating a team of people, facilities, budget management, planning and program development within an academic context.

  • Professional experience in construction management, facilities management, architecture and planning and/or real estate practice.

  • Active participation in relevant professional organizations - for example - International Facilities Management Association (IFMA).

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
