Description

The College of Business Administration at Winthrop University is seeking to hire a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor of Computer Science. Candidates must have a strong foundational knowledge of Computer Science with a concentration in Cybersecurity or a related specialty.

We are seeking an excellent faculty member who will enhance the school’s strength in Computer Science and Cybersecurity. The successful candidate should, by August 16, 2022, possess a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a closely related discipline. The successful candidate must have a strong commitment to teaching excellence, dedication to continued professional development, scholarship, and service as well as the ability to work effectively with students, staff, and faculty from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

The Department of Computer Science and Quantitative Methods offers several degrees. The BS in Computer Science degree is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET.  The BS in Business Administration, including the Computer Information Systems concentration, is accredited by AACSB International. We also offer Bachelor's Degrees in Applied Software Development as well as a B.S. in Cybersecurity. The department also offers core courses for the BS in Digital Information Design degree as well as a concentration of Web App Development in the same major.  

The successful candidate may be required to teach courses in any of the department's majors, service, or elective courses.  The department's immediate needs are in the area of Cybersecurity.  Examples of courses include Foundations/Principles of Information Security, Enterprise System Administration & Security, Cyber Forensics, Ethical Hacking, Cloud Computing, and so on.

Qualifications
  • Candidates should possess a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a closely related discipline by the time of their employment in Fall 2022 (August 16, 2022). Candidates who are ABD in Fall 2022 may also be acceptable but continued employment may be based on the candidate obtaining their PhD within 12 months. 
  • Candidates must have excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Candidates must have a strong commitment to teaching excellence, and a dedication to continued professional development, scholarship, and service. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues at the department, college, and university levels.
  • The successful candidate must have the ability to work effectively with students, staff, and faculty from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Teaching, research, or professional experience with: Foundations/Principles of Information Security, Enterprise System Administration & Security, Cyber Forensics, Ethical Hacking, Cloud Computing, and other areas of immediate need.

Employment Conditions:  

A nine-month, full-time, tenure-track appointment with faculty rank. Teaching load is 9 credits in both Fall and Spring.  Salary is competitive and dependent on academic qualifications and work experience. 

Work Environment:

This position requires daily contact with students, faculty, and staff on campus.
