The School of Education Office of Human Resources is seeking aHRGeneralistwho provides independent professional HR generalist support to the faculty, staff and students within SOE; and may include the HR functional areas of employee relations, talent acquisition, employee engagement, training, compensation/benefits administration, HRIS, communications, payroll, and a wide-range of HR support.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
Recruitment, Compensation & Contract Administration

Responsible for coordinating the employment process by working with
faculty, staff, students, administration and appropriate JHU
offices to ensure efficient and smooth process in accordance with
all applicable university policies and
procedures.
Consult with managers and supervisors to assess staffing needs and
assist them in developing requisitions and job descriptions based
on those needs
Assist departments in writing/updating position descriptions for
classification review. Work with Compensation to ensure that the
position is providing a competitive and equitable salary
range.
Interview staff applicants, provide interview training and
coordinate searches with recruiter, hiring departments and search
committees
Assist with the full-cycle recruitment process of faculty
applicants from position create to appointment contract and manage
a large database of salary, position and contract history for all
full-time, part-time faculty, Dean’s
appointments.
Manage Requisitions in SuccessFactors
Recruiting.
Partner with departments with hiring temporary staff from
agencies.
Assist departments and supervisors with guidance during the
introductory period to ensure the identified candidate is
successful and is the proper fit for the
position.
Provide guidance in coordination with JHU compensation and
divisional administration to make recommendations to the
Departments on appropriate starting salaries and promotional
salaries while ensuring equity.
Employee Relations / Performance / Policy
Management
- Act as onsite consultant for HR issues including questions regarding University policy, Compensation, Training Recruitment and Benefits. Provide consultation to employees on: sick time, vacation time, holidays, leave of absence, family medical leave, payroll, tuition reimbursement, flexible fringe benefits, deductions, etc. Guide employees and managers to the correct Subject Matter Experts for information. Intake and triage employee relations issues including job performance with the department and the division as they are reported. Escalate issues to the appropriate leadership as necessary. Under the direction of the HR leader, may participate in employee relations investigations, draft and review disciplinary actions including performance improvement plans and maintain cases in the HR employee relations database. Under the direction of the HR leader, provide one-to-one counseling to support progressive discipline and actions. Work with OIE and the Employee Relations / Labor Relations office for next steps and cohesive process. Coordinate and/or implement manager trainings on HR policies and processes Increase employee engagement and maintain positive employee relations by facilitating communication and problem resolution.

Provide professional development guidance to staff. Facilitate
performance management process in Success Factors, work with
management and staff to ensure review process is being followed and
goals are being set.
Partner with managers, supervisors, and JHU Compensation to
determine appropriate compensation for merit increases, equity
adjustments, etc.
Administer SOE’s Staff Professional Development
Fund.

Administer JHU’s staff policies and processes; maintain and retain
appropriate records.
Initiate and/or approve various HR transactions (ISR’s) within SAP
to establish positions, hire, change salaries,
etc.)
Participate in the execution of payroll transactions in SAP as an
initiator and/or approver.
Generate reports to track information, review salary equity,
develop organization charts, etc. and participate in appropriate HR
auditing.
Serve as backup to the Payroll Specialist/ HR Coordinator for E210
timekeeping system administration and other payroll
functions.
Troubleshoot pay issues including pay errors, overpayments, faculty
pay changes, student pay changes, Federal Work
Study.
Perform JHED administration functions as needed for new hires,
contractors and current JHED ID holders.
Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
- Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or other related field.
- Three years of progressive experience in a professional human resources capacity.

confirming their academic completion date.
Preferred Qualifications:

HR Certification / SHRM or HRCI preferred.
Prior experience in HR Business Partnership in a matrix
environment.
Experience in higher education is a plus.
Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
-
Knowledge of principles and procedures for HR strategic and
functional areas: recruitment, training, compensation and benefits,
leave administration, payroll, employee relations, and organization
development.
Knowledge of relevant federal, state and local laws and regulations
including FLSA and FMLA regulations.
Experience with SAP or other enterprise resource planning software
is a plus.
Familiarity with Success Factors / Interfolio or other applicant
tracking software.
Computer proficiency including, Microsoft Office, and documentation
through spreadsheets and database management.
Ability to exercise independent judgement and act on
decisions.
Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to
work collaboratively with others and multi-task.
Creativity and resourcefulness needed to be able to handle various
complex HR issues and concerns effectively while maintaining
confidentiality
Ability to prioritize own work as needed. Strong organizational
skills, analytical and problem-solving abilities and attention to
detail.
Will oversee or coordinate the work of others.
Ability to effectively interact with all levels of University
employees.
