A research position as a Postdoctoral Associate in Host-Parasite Interactions is available in the
The Gaji lab in the Department of Biomedical Sciences and Pathobiology, of the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, USA. The lab is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral candidate with a strong interest in Microbial Pathogenesis.

You will be a member of a diverse and innovative group of scientists in defining the role of signaling proteins in Toxoplasma gondii, a protozoan parasite and an important human and animal pathogen. The selected candidate will be using cutting edge tools in Cell and Molecular Biology, Proteomics and Live Cell Imaging techniques in studying host-parasite interactions. The expected start date for this position is March 2022.

We are located in the Center of One Health Research (COHR), a recently renovated, highly collaborative, and interdisciplinary vibrant research environment and state-of-the-art core facilities on Virginia Tech’s campus in Blacksburg. The training environment is especially rich for studying infectious diseases because of a robust and interactive research community.
The PI will work closely with the successful candidate in a collaborative lab environment to develop research projects and help the trainee achieve their career goals. Required Qualifications

-Ph.D. in any area of biological sciences including cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, parasitology, biotechnology, molecular parasitology, microbiology or immunology. PhD must be awarded no more than four years prior to the effective date of appointment with a minimum of one year eligibility remaining.
- Must be highly self-motivated after initial supervision, willing to learn new experimental skills, and to work individually and collaboratively with a variety of individuals for more than one projects simultaneously.
- Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

- Expertise in mammalian cell culture and standard molecular and cell biology techniques.
- Proficient in animal studies.
- Excellent scientific writing and manuscript preparation skills.
- Prior experience with mentoring or supervising.
