Reporting to the Director, the Assistant Director of Undergraduate Recruitment is responsible for representing Syracuse University and the College of Visual and Performing Arts to prospective undergraduate students on and off campus and will play a key role in the entire undergraduate admissions recruitment cycle. The Assistant Director of Undergraduate Recruitment will assist in developing strategies and planning /implementing activities that optimize undergraduate recruiting and enrollment goals in VPA . The candidate will also assist in the day-to-day management of the Office of Recruitment and Admissions and serve as a role-model for other VPA recruitment staff in all aspects of professional practice and job responsibilities. Candidates should be critical thinkers, possess a high level of judgment and decision-making skills, and be willing to work both in a close team and independently. Qualifications
  • Ability to provide oversight and management of admission recruitment cycle and undergraduate student enrollment.
  • Ability to manage the planning, implementation, and evaluation of recruitment activities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Ability to use a variety of software ( SLATE, PeopleSoft, OnBase, etc.).
  • Commitment to diversity and an appreciation for working with diverse populations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated experience in problem-solving; strong intuition and reasoning skills
  • Collaborative nature and proven ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to facilitate work between a wide range of individuals and groups including prospective students, faculty, staff, alumni, and college leadership.
Job Specific Qualifications
Demonstrated leadership, excellent written and verbal communication, attention to detail, strong public speaking, organization skills, problem solving, strategic planning, and ability to work collaboratively with others. Knowledge of academic and professional fields in the arts desirable. Ability to travel approximately 10% of the time, on weekends and evenings as necessary. Responsibilities
  • Assist the Director to plan and coordinate strategies and activities that optimize undergraduate applications and enrollment into all areas of the College of Visual and Performing Arts. Assist in the day-to-day management of the office. Provide reports as needed.
  • Assist in development of the undergraduate VPA communications strategy and plan in collaboration with Director, VPA Office of Communications, and the Office of Admissions. Manage implementation and execution of finalized undergraduate recruitment communications plan. Lead development for proposals of copy/messaging and provide direction and oversight for physical mailing campaigns.
  • Promote VPA undergraduate programs and guide prospective students/families through the admissions/matriculation processes. Conduct daily undergraduate information sessions and communicate with undergraduate prospective VPA students via phone, email, and interviews as needed. May include evenings and weekends. Provide guidance to undergraduate recruiters on these functions as needed.
  • Manage workflow and processing of VPA -specific undergraduate application materials. Day-to-day management of key processes such as online talent submission portals (Accepted, Slide-room), portfolio/audition review, student ambassadors, development of undergraduate recruitment presentations, etc. Oversee execution and/or delegation of other administrative functions connected to undergrad admissions as required.
  • Engage in strategic recruitment by travelling on behalf of the College of Visual and Performing Arts to meet and engage with prospective undergraduate students and their families, including evenings and weekends, as required. Attend recruitment functions such as National Portfolio Days, academic interest programs, high schools, college fairs, auditions, etc. Propose recruitment travel initiatives and participation in new events to widen reach.
