Cal Poly Pomona seeks a Dean of the College of Environmental Design (ENV). The new Dean must be an innovative, strategic, and collegial academic leader who embraces the mission of Cal Poly Pomona, is committed to student success, and will be a champion for the College of ENV. Ideally, the new Dean of ENV will take office in the spring but is expected to do so no later than June 2022.

Cal Poly Pomona, also known as CPP or California State Polytechnic University, is nestled in the beautiful San Gabriel Valley less than 30 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. It is one of two polytechnic universities in the 23-campus California State University system and among 11 such institutions nationwide. Additional information about the institution can be found at https://www.cpp.edu.

The College of Environmental Design connects people, places, and the environment to improve communities and resolve pressing problems facing society. With a unique integration of the arts, architecture, landscape architecture, regenerative studies, and urban and regional planning, as well as a “learn by doing” approach grounded in the polytechnic tradition, ENV is a leader in design excellence and innovative problem-solving for communities in Southern California and around the globe. Interdisciplinary and creative methods are incorporated into the curriculum to reflect today's creative and design sector. Using the Teacher- Scholar model, students and faculty advance the design professions through their teaching, service contributions, and scholarly activities that contribute to the body of knowledge of their respective disciplines. The curriculum reflects a commitment to excellence and social and environmental responsibility.

There are five academic units that offer undergraduate and graduate degrees within the College: the Departments of Architecture, Art, Landscape Architecture, and Urban and Regional Planning; and the Lyle Center for Regenerative Studies, a premiere interdisciplinary research institute for cutting-edge sustainability research and programs that convene diverse groups of students, academic experts, policy makers and community members committed to catalyzing pro-environmental change. Also, under the stewardship of ENV and the Department of Architecture, the nonprofit Neutra VDL Studio and Residences is a National Historic Landmark that serves as a platform for the exchange and exploration of ideas in art and architecture and is committed to cultivating education, architecture, art, and culture that strengthen the facility's mission as a community resource.

The Dean reports to the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, serves as a member of the Provost's Council and works closely with University Advancement and others across campus to advance the goals and priorities of the college and university. The Dean will serve as a role model who supports diversity, inclusion, and transparency in decision making; and who promotes innovative approaches to teaching and learning, global education, and shared governance. The successful candidate will be a collaborative leader who acts with integrity and possesses the ability to communicate with diverse constituents and fosters collegiality and clarity in the decision-making process.
