English – Assistant Professor, Creative Writing—Fiction

The Department of English at Hope College invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in Creative Writing—Fiction to begin Academic Year ‘22 - ‘23.

Successful candidates will have a strong grounding in contemporary fiction and narrative technique. The typical teaching load is three four-credit courses per semester. This could include intermediate and advanced fiction, introductory multi-genre creative writing, and first-year writing. Department members also teach other courses in our General Education Program. Preferences will be given to creative writers whose creative, research, and teaching interests supplement and expand our departmental program, especially with secondary interests in professional writing, non-fiction creative writing, and perhaps graphic narrative. Additional duties will include academic advising and supporting students in a thriving program, maintaining an active publication profile, recruitment of potential incoming students, and participation in faculty governance within and outside the department.

Qualifications:

The position requires an MFA or PhD in creative writing, evidence of outstanding college-level teaching, and a strong publication record.

Hope College is committed to creating a diverse, ecumenical Christian academic community that invites all its members into a holistic and robust engagement with the historic Christian faith. The college’s board, faculty, administration, and staff are committed to the Christian faith as expressed in the ecumenical creeds of the ancient church. Individuals interested in this position must demonstrate a commitment to the character and goals of a liberal arts college with a Christian perspective, including a mature understanding of and commitment to the historic Christian faith.
