Division Chair and Associate Professor of Education

Elms College located in Chicopee, MA invites applications and nominations for a collaborate leader with strong record of success in academic leadership to assume the position of Chair of the Division of Education at a tenured Associate Professor level.  The Chair carries the primary responsibility for ensuring academic excellence through Curriculum and co-curricular activities and for the support and development of faculty as teachers and scholars in the Division of Education. 

Elms College seeks an academic leader with experience in program and curriculum development, licensure and accreditation requirements regulated by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), and a demonstrated commitment to educational access and success. The successful candidate will hold an earned doctorate appropriate for appointment as a tenured, or tenure-track, associate professor of Education, and a record of accomplishment in teaching, scholarship, and professional service. The Chair will be expected to provide collaborative leadership and to advance a strategic academic vision for the Division, and in partnership with the College’s Cynthia A. Lyons Center for Equity in Urban Education.

 

The Chair must be committed to the College’s Mission and Core Values, and to promoting, supporting, and extending the values of inclusion, access, and diversity.

 

The Chair will have teaching responsibilities, be active in scholarship, and will work with the Education faculty, and collaboratively with other Division Charis and Deans, and the Executive Director of the Cynthia A. Lyons Center for Equity in Urban Education, to maintain and enhance academic quality, foster engaged learning, and sustain high impact educational practices such as experiential and service learning.  The Chair will sustain and build education programs on the foundation of the Elms College Liberal Arts Core curriculum, which integrates curricular and co-curricular learning to educate the whole student.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND DEMONSTRATED EXPERIENCE

  • A strong academic background in teaching, scholarship, and service with an earned doctorate and experience appropriate for appointment as a tenured, or tenure-track, Associate Professor of Education. Currently tenured faculty are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Minimum of five-years of progressive academic or administrative experience in an Education or Teacher Preparation program, including experience with program evaluation.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and the community, including public, charter and Catholic schools in Massachusetts, in particular, western Massachusetts.
  • Experience and commitment to diversity and inclusion; Ability to oversee the recruitment and retention of diverse faculty, staff, and students; Ability to promote culturally-responsive instruction with a demonstrated commitment to student success; Experience in, and knowledge of, urban schools, their opportunities, and strengths.
  • Familiarity with state and federal policies and requirements for teacher certification and program accreditation.
  • Familiarity with Massachusetts DESE accreditation standards and processes.
