Duties:  Successful applicants will teach studio voice, first-year through doctoral levels in Voice Performance, as well as undergraduates in Multidisciplinary Studies and Choral Music Education. The possibility also exists to develop and teach additional courses or seminars in related areas, based on individual skills, research interests and experience, coupled with departmental strategy. The appointee will be expected to: demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence, create an innovative curriculum for a broad range of students of varied identities and backgrounds who seek to explore a range of educational opportunities and career pathways; recruit and retain students of exceptional promise, and develop and maintain a visible national and international profile as a performer and a pedagogue. The appointee will also be expected to: participate in faculty governance, attend faculty meetings, and serve on faculty and university committees as appropriate.

Qualifications: Soprano / Mezzo-soprano / Contralto preferred. We seek an outstanding pedagogue and artist with a thorough knowledge of opera, oratorio, art song, and concert literature who is interested in contributing to a vibrant vocal arts program dedicated to the overall development of today’s classical vocalist. Applicants must demonstrate expertise and experience in teaching by having presented master classes, maintained private studios, and/or served as faculty members at institutions of higher learning, and demonstrated ability to empower, advocate for, and value a broad range of students of diverse identities and experiences, as shown through pedagogy, mentoring, and related activities.  Applications from qualified candidates with innovative approaches to the changing arts landscape are encouraged. A documented history of collaboration with co-workers and/or faculty members is crucial, as is knowledge of the professional vocal arts field as it exists today. Applicants should be ready to contribute to a cohesive departmental vision and strategy that closely aligns with the overall mission of the U-M School of Music, Theatre & Dance and the U-M Department of Voice.
