MSW Field Director and Professor of Practice

Utica College, a small comprehensive college in Upstate New York, is seeking applications for a full-time, non-tenure track, MSW Field Director and Professor of Practice to join their new Online Master of Social Work (MSW) Program in recovery-oriented clinical social work. As a Professor of Practice, the Field Director will be responsible for developing and providing live instruction in practice courses, primarily Field Seminar courses. The Field Director will also develop, establish, and oversee online MSW student internships in collaboration with a Field Coordinator. In this role, the Field Director will help students identify prospective field placements and collaborate with agency personnel to produce memoranda of understanding that meet the needs of the student, the agency, and the College.

Primary responsibilities include

•Identify and train new field instructors.
•Manage the work of field liaisons.
•Maintain accurate records concerning the experiences of students in the field.
•Design and run online training for new field liaisons and field supervisors.
•Provide professional development to field supervisors to ensure student learning.
•Build long-term relationships with field agency leadership.
•Assess student progress in the field and evaluate the performance of agencies, field liaisons, and field supervisors.
•Provide guidance to students in selecting field placements appropriate to meeting their learning objectives and career goals.
•Conduct site visits by zoom with students and agency representatives.
•Respond to and resolve any issues that arise for students in field settings.
•Draft and review field education policies and procedures.
•Assist with drafting, reviewing, and editing CSWE accreditation documents.
•Help review, revise, and develop the Field Education Manual.
•This position will lead and provide instruction in field work practice courses as well as assume additional teaching responsibilities as needed.
•Since the incumbent will be a core member of Utica College’s online MSW program in recovery-oriented clinical social work, an understanding and appreciation of recovery values is important. An MSW who has previously worked in a recovery-oriented setting would be ideal.
•Since this role involves leadership in social work education, it is especially important that candidates demonstrate a commitment to social and economic justice, and the ability to teach and collaborate with students and colleagues diverse in age, socioeconomic status, cultural heritage, color, ethnicity, faith, residence in urban and rural settings, gender identity, sexual orientation, disabilities, lived experience of recovery, and academic background.
