Purpose of Position
The Director of Digital Media ( DODM ) is responsible to the Assistant Athletic Director for Communications and Media Services for all duties associated with the planning and implementing of the Athletic Department’s communication plan in accordance with Northern Kentucky University ( NKU ), Horizon League, and the National Collegiate Athletic Association ( NCAA ) guidelines. The DODM is responsible for the planning and creation of video content for use on NKUNorse.com, Norse Athletics’ social channels and other platforms (ESPN+, OTA / OTT, etc.). Maintaining timely contacts through news releases and sharing of video content, the reporting of game results and accommodating media requests are essential for the position. The DODM will also coordinate media coverage for the men’s and women’s cross country and track & field programs (sport assignment subject to change based on candidate’s skills. The DODM is responsible for Athletics publications, maintaining departmental statistics and writing game stories for assigned sports, and working as a valued member of the athletic communication staff to provide extensive video content coverage of 17 sports programs. The DODM will communicate effectively with campus marketing and communications to promote the University’s Athletics programs. The DODM assists the Assistant AD for Communications and Media Services in development of programming, promotional activities, public relations, and support services. Travel may be necessary dependent on video content creation needs and sports coverage responsibilities. Primary Responsibilities
Regular Duties
  • Create and edit video content for the athletic department, distributing the content via NKUNorse.com, Northern Kentucky Athletics’ social media channels, in-venue and through traditional media outlets.
  • Coordinate with Horizon League as well as NKU’s IT/Media Services and the Department of Communication’s Electronic Media and Broadcasting program on the production of 60-70 broadcasts annually.
  • Serve as NKU’s representative on the Horizon League Streaming Coordinator’s peer group.
  • Assist in coordination of Horizon League events, banquet and celebration programs (fall gala, The Victors, etc.), Hall of Fame programs, and sports schedules by providing and/or arranging video support, including, but not limited to, video content for each program/event, interviews, highlights/recaps, etc.
  • Work closely with athletics development, marketing/promotions and ticketing staffs, assisting them in creating video content (PSA’s, feature vignettes, etc.) to promote their efforts in generating revenue.
  • Supervise student employees and interns, plus keep in contact with off-campus personnel to work home athletic events with an emphasis on securing broadcast talent.
  • Full communication support for men’s/women’s cross country/track & field programs.
  • Maintain regular contact with print and electronic media providing player profiles, statistics, coaches’ biographies, historical facts, opponent information and Horizon League and NCAA information.
  • Write stories/game recaps for distribution to media outlets of assigned sports.
  • Assist in maintaining website content.
  • Develop a positive relationship with all media contacts and provide services to radio/TV personalities when assigned. Also edit the content and provide editorial support for other sports.
  • Comply with NKU, Horizon League and NCAA regulations.
Periodic Duties
  • Assist the Assistant Athletic Director during selected home athletic events.
  • Travel with selected teams during the regular season and post season.
Occasional Duties
  • Assist in Athletics Department administration through participation in the development of policies and procedures relative to facilities, programming, promotional activity, public relations, support services and budgeting.
  • Work with the Go Norse Fund to promote fund raising events, i.e., golf outings, gala, etc.
  • Serve on various committees on campus or with the Horizon League, i.e., Messaging Cabinet, Streaming Coordinators Committee.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Two (2) years of experience with video content creation, preferably (but not required) in an athletics-related field. Must have a Bachelor’s degree. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, especially Premiere and After Effects. Position requires considerable initiative, creativity and independence. Evidence of strong communication skills.

Desired Qualifications
Three (3) or more years of experience with video content creation, preferably (but not required) in an athletics-related field. Master’s degree. Experience in live broadcast production.
