Reporting to the Director of Accessibility Services, the Success
Coach for Accessibility works within the Center for Student Success
and helps facilitate access for students with documented
disabilities in accordance with the mission of Accessibility
Services. The Coach facilitates interventions using a developmental
and intrusive model to support the academic success of Husson
students with disabilities. Success Coaches work with students to
develop goals, explore academic options, and provide supportive
feedback to students while communicating expectations, and
facilitating the utilization of campus support services.DUTIES
& RESPONSIBILITIES:
·Provide support to students with disabilities including meeting with new students interested in learning more about eligibility for various accommodations. ·Utilize a variety of techniques and modalities to provide support to targeted populations to support their transition to Husson and to support them in working through academic and personal challenges. ·Support the testing of accommodated students, including sometimes proctoring exams while managing other tasks. ·Keep accurate records and notes of student interactions and outcomes. ·Collaborate with academic advisors, faculty, and staff to provide ongoing support to students with disabilities. ·Provide clear and accurate explanations of university policy and academic expectations across a variety of departments and fields. ·Develop individual goal-oriented plans to foster academic and personal development. ·Serve on relevant committees to support institutional needs. ·Engage in relevant professional development opportunities. ·Promote student self-advocacy and disability awareness. ·Work closely with the director to develop and implement relevant policies and procedures related to Accessibility Services, and carry out other Accessibility initiatives on campus. ·Follow institutional guidelines on FERPA and confidentiality. ·Teach in the Husson Experience course as needed. ·Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Required level The candidate should possess a Bachelor's degree in special education, psychology, rehabilitation counseling, or another related field, and at least one year experience working with college students or students with disabilities. The candidate should be familiar with the ADA and possess an understanding of the needs of students with disabilities, and basis of reasonable accommodations. Preferred level Three or more years of progressively responsible experience in accessibility, academic advising, or teaching in a Higher Educational context; a demonstrated history of establishing positive relationships with and advocating for students with disabilities in an academic setting; Master's Degree in special education, psychology, rehabilitation counseling, or a related field.
