Description

The Department of English and Creative Writing at Dartmouth College (Hanover, NH) invites applications for a tenured associate or full professor in the field of Asian American literature, to begin on July 1, 2022. Core teaching responsibilities will involve courses in Asian American literature, media, and/or cultural studies. Qualified candidates should have a proven track-record of outstanding teaching and scholarship in the field, and the potential for broader forms of institutional and administrative leadership. We are interested in all approaches related to Asian American literature, particularly those that engage with the transnational contexts of Asian American cultural production. Appropriate secondary fields include, but are not limited to: critical theory; critical race theory; ethnic studies; Indigenous and Pacific Islander studies; queer theory; women’s, gender and sexuality studies; performance studies; media studies; and creative writing.

Dartmouth’s Department of English and Creative Writing ranges across all periods of Anglophone literature and has a strong creative writing program. We are also committed to developing new fields and to rethinking the relationship between critical and creative practice. Beyond the department, our faculty participate in a wide range of research and experiential learning initiatives; in the digital humanities; and in the college’s numerous interdisciplinary programs, such as African and African American Studies, Native American Studies, Latin American, Latina and Caribbean Studies, Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Comparative Literature, and the Masters Program in Liberal Studies. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to Dartmouth’s undergraduate diversity initiatives in research, such as the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship Program. Members of the Department of English and Creative Writing also routinely teach first-year writing seminars.

Dartmouth College combines a dedication to innovative scholarship with a commitment to excellent undergraduate teaching. It is also highly committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive population of students, faculty, and staff. We are especially interested in applicants who are able to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from all backgrounds, including but not limited to: different racial and ethnic groups, women, individuals who identify with LGBTQ+ communities, individuals with disabilities, individuals from lower income backgrounds, and/or first-generation college graduates. Applicants should state in their cover letter how their teaching, research, service, and/or life experiences prepare them to advance Dartmouth’s commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
