Description

Dartmouth College invites applications for a Guarini Dean’s Postdoctoral Fellowships in Black Geographies/US Black Studies. We are most interested in scholars in the social sciences whose work produces or advances theories concerning placemaking, Black liberation, and/or the dismantling of racial capitalism within the historical and contemporary context of US society. This encompasses candidates whose work engages with, for example, carceral geographies, Black feminisms, Queer and Trans theories, diasporic studies, race and anti-racism, and comparative studies of race and sovereignty. In addition, the fellowship promotes student and faculty diversity at Dartmouth, and throughout higher education, by supporting the early career development of underrepresented scholars and others with a demonstrated ability to advance educational diversity and inclusivity.

Qualifications

Applicants will be selected on the basis of their academic achievement, promise in both research and teaching, and their demonstrated commitment to addressing underrepresentation in higher education.

This is a two-year residential fellowship, with one course taught in the second year. Throughout, fellows are expected to pursue research activities while participating fully in the intellectual life of the Program in African and African American Studies, the Geography Department, and the college. Fellows receive an annual stipend of approximately $55,200 plus benefits and an allocation for research expenses (exact funding levels will be set at the time of offer).

Guarini Dean’s Postdoctoral Fellows are part of the Provost’s Fellowship Program , a multidisciplinary cohort of approximately ten predoctoral and postdoctoral scholars who share a commitment to increasing diversity and inclusivity in their disciplines. Fellows participate together in mentoring and professional development programming, including guidance in preparing for faculty careers

Application Instructions
  1. Cover letter, including overview of research areas and teaching interests; we also invite candidates to describe past accomplishments and future goals related to the growth and support of a diverse community of students and scholars, and your motivations to join this multidisciplinary fellowship program;
  2. CV;
  3. Dissertation description (maximum two pages single spaced) and one writing sample;
  4. Names of three recommenders who can provide a letter upon request, one of these should be the dissertation advisor.

Review of applications will begin January 22, 2022 and continue until February 15, 2022.
