About the Opportunity:
Reporting to the Associate Director for Operations and Customer Service at the Office of Global Services (OGS), and working collaboratively with the OGS teams, the SEVIS Coordinator will independently provide technical, systems and reporting support necessary for Northeastern University to maintain compliance for its F and J visa students, scholars, and dependents. The SEVIS Coordinator will serve as the primary contact responsible to maintain and manage the Sunapsis database which serves as the university's primary system of record for immigration data. This position is also responsible for regular maintenance, review, resolutions, etc. of data in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) database. The SEVIS Coordinator works closely with other ERP systems at the university and government systems including but not limited to Banner, Salesforce, SEVIS and ODS.

Responsibilities:
Key responsibilities include organization, maintenance, and oversight of governmental and University required information pertinent to the nonimmigrant visa/immigration status of international students and scholars. In order to ensure compliance with federal regulations governing F and J non-immigrant visa classifications and with SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) processes, the SEVIS Coordinator will monitor and maintain an integrated electronic system of data collection needed to maintain the integrity of the OGS batching database and related systems at all Northeastern University campuses. This role will serve as the data steward for international student/scholar immigration data at Northeastern University and act as a resource/liaison to internal staff and other departments regarding data/records and status of international students and scholars. The SEVIS Coordinator will provide ongoing training on data management requirements and protocols, system management/updates and other regulatory requirements to internal staff and campus community. The incumbent will also be responsible for interpreting data and analyzing its impact on individual and institutional compliance with regulatory requirements. This role is required to serve as Designated School Official (DSO)/Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO).

In addition, when appropriate, the SEVIS Coordinator will advise international students and scholars on immigration-related matters and a variety of regulatory issues that apply specifically to an individual's status and his/her current data on file. Train staff as required. Provide leadership in special projects and collaborate in the compilation of administrative and statistical reports. Participate in DSO on call rotation. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in Information Systems or related academic discipline preferred, along with an educational background pertinent to international education.

  • 3-5 years of professional experience in international education including knowledge of and experience with U.S. federal regulations governing nonimmigrant visa categories, with a focus on F-1 (student) and J-1 (exchange visitor) visa classifications and SEVIS compliance are required.

  • Minimum 3 years of practical experience in computer technology, relational database management, data transfer, and SQL.

  • Prior work experience involving Sunapsis compliance software and Banner are strongly preferred.

  • Must have proven experience with both PC and Macintosh operative systems and Microsoft 365 suite.

  • Strong interpersonal, intercultural, organizational, prioritizing, and analytical skills are required.

  • Flexibility, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to work well under pressure are also essential.

  • Fluency in two or more languages is beneficial.

  • Experience with WordPress, SharePoint, Cold Fusion and Veera are desirable.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident on order to serve as DSO/ARO.
