Position Summary:
The Oregon Center for the Arts at Southern Oregon University seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Emerging Media and Digital Arts with an emphasis in design. EMDA is a pioneering interdisciplinary major that connects creativity and innovation with emerging technologies of art and animation, sound and narrative, app and game development, and virtual/augmented reality.

Applicants should have a terminal degree (MFA, PhD or ABD) in design, media or a closely related field. Preferred candidates will have a strong foundation in design and collaboration, dedication to imaginative and responsive teaching, and potential for contributing to our growing emphasis on creative industries. Areas of practice and instruction could include one or more of the following: accessible and inclusive design, user interface and experience, theory and practice in emerging media, creative industries and professional practices, animation and motion graphics, 3D modeling and printing, VR and AR.

We are especially interested in hearing from applicants who (1) show promise in attracting and retaining students working on the cutting edge of technology and creativity, (2) have the ability to successfully nurture students from a diverse population, (3) demonstrate potential for connecting students with a variety of post-degree opportunities, (4) and whose professional activity can expand EMDA graduates' connections with creative industries.

As a tenure-track faculty member, the new hire will be expected to engage in ongoing professional development through a balance of teaching, service, and scholarship. About the Oregon Center for the Arts: The Oregon Center for the Arts at Southern Oregon University educates artist-practitioners and scholars in a diverse environment that cultivates SOU's values of creativity and collaboration, equity, diversity, and inclusion, and the well-being and success of all learners. OCA is an academic division of Southern Oregon University and also serves as a community arts presenter, partner, and producer. About the Creative Arts Department: The Creative Arts Department contains faculty and degree programs including Studio Art, Art History, Emerging Media and Digital Arts (EMDA), and Creative Writing. Within an interdisciplinary framework, the Creative Arts Department includes state-of-the-art facilities the following areas: Painting, Drawing, Printmaking, Ceramics, Sculpture, Photography, Digital Art, and Interdisciplinary Arts and Technology.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Initial appointment at the rank of assistant professor requires a MFA, PhD or other terminal degree in an appropriate field from an accredited institution, no later than September 16, 2022. (ABD will be considered.)
• Applicants should have at least one year of experience teaching in higher education.
• Applicants should provide documented evidence of teaching excellence and scholarly activities.

• Demonstration of effective teaching and mentorship• Ability to work collaboratively and cordially with fellow faculty, students, and guest artists• Desire, ability, and patience to effectively teach and train novice students• Ability to attract and retain students working on the cutting edge of technology and creativity• Ability to successfully nurture students from a diverse population• Demonstrate potential for connecting students with a variety of post-degree opportunities; and whose professional activity can expand EMDA graduates’ connections with creative industries.• A promising record of distinguished scholarship, exhibition, research and/or professional project development appropriate to be appointed at the assistant professor level.

•Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for occasional professional development.
•Must be able to work additional hours and adjust working hours to meet special jobs. May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on an emergency basis.
•Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background check.
